Power F1?

Anyone heard of this Power F1 that's advertised in CGW?  I know a demo
is supposed to be on the CD, but I guess they don't send them to those
with subscriptions.  How come nothings been in this group about this new
sim, or is an arcade racer?

I've seen it in a number of chain stores in England (Electronics
Boutique, GAME), however I could not find it in the USA (Fry's,
CompUSA, Circuit City)

The UK version of PC Gamer, Christmas 1996 (Issue #38) reviewed the
game, giving it 78%, and concluding that it was "A good arcade style
racing game. It's a fast, thrilling effort, though not quite as tough
as it might be.".

I too, like yourself, am interested to hear what newsgroup readers
have to say about the game.

Power F1?

I have a CGW-CD subscription. The FEB97 issue showed up yesterday.
I looked at the CD and saw nothing interesting printed on the CD label.
I read the magazine a little & saw that Power F1 was on there as a Demo.
So I installed it & ran it.

The Demo is VGA. (Think F1GP)
I was able to get my T2 to work with it, however it seems to be
autoshifting.
The default view the the external arcade game view.
F6 will put you in the normal***pit.
I think you get to drive around for 2-3 minutes.
I was not impressed with the VGA graphics.
There seems to be no physics involved :-)
Sound was so-so.
Engine sound seemed weak compared to GP2.
You do hear other cars go by, and the sound is very good.
The cars are *WAY* elongated.
The front tires of the other cars seem perpetually turning.
The computer cars in the demo are *VERY* slow.
The computer cars do drive  up your ass.
When that do they fly off of the road.
I did not notice that the players cars launches.

Well those are the highlights. This one does not seem to be a GP2
killer. It might be a Road&Track F1 killer though :-)

Well I bought this game a while ago  in the North East of England for
the  price of 29.99 UKP, - sorry don't know the conversion to US
Dollars :-)

Minimum specs are:

486DX4/100 minimum - P90 Recommended
MS DOS 6.0 or W95 (DOS MODE)
8 Meg Ram
Vesa Compatible SVGA Card
Double Speed CD Rom
Supports all major soundcards

Very much an arcade type game, although there is the facility to set
up your car - tyre pressures/gear ratios/wing angles etc. Its not a
sim in the way that GP2 is and I don't think that it sets out to
compete with that game.
Graphics are very detailed and can be reduced/increased to suit the
speed of the CPU.
17 F1 tracks to compete on - seem to be true to the real thing.
2 Player Split Screen Option

Having played the game for a couple of days I can say it definitely
falls into the arcade category. Not knocking the game for that.
The graphics are excellent and the game speed is good (I'm using a
P100/16 meg) and the action is quite believable. Various driving
positions can be used to view the car, i.e. inside the***pit or from
a chase point of view. The detail when cars crash is not as good as
GP2/NASCAR etc. as you don't see bits and pieces falling off :-).

If you after a racing game that is easy to play without having to be a
virtual mechanic then this is the game for you. Lets call it the F22
Lightning 2 of the racing scene, i.e. you can climb in and drive
straight away.

Cheers

I concur. I just tried Power F1 and I am not impressed by it...
It definitely isn't as good as F1GP2, plus there is no real
experience in this game. I mean If you're an arcade driver,
