Is there anyway to make GP2 run without the CD in the tray at start-up of
the game??? Please let me know of any tips anyone might have (short of
copying the whole cd). Thank you;

There is a utility you can download from the web, I don't recall where
but try http://www.volftp.vol.it/GP2 first. This will achieve your aim

Yes there is......

Search on any good GP2 website for a file called nocdrom.zip

The file copies all the relevant files to your h/d and you no longer need
the cd in the drive.

The only downside to this is you lose the intro music, and you must have
installed gp2 as a full install.

There's the a utility called NOCDROM. You can find it at
http://www.gp2.com
It's somewhere in the utilities section.

You're lucky..

Someone made a no-CD patch. Most major GP2 sites have it somewhere. Just look
around for a few minutes and you'll bounce into it.
