rally racing tips?

... anybody got any webpages or tips on rally racing, various techniques,
etc?  I have been playing Rally Masters and Colin McRae Rally 2 for quite
some time.  I beat CMR2 on easy after alot of practice, but I'm still
working on Rally Masters.

I've never seen real rally racing, on TV or otherwise, so I'm not into the
lingo.  I have a basic idea of a what a "pendulum turn" is, but I've never
seen how you could apply it to a game like Rally Masters.  With CMR2, I
endup up just sliding into the turns and using alot of counter-steering to
keep on course through the turn.  In Rally Masters, occasionally I can use a
handbrake to turn, but often I just slow down by braking before the turn or
coast through (the wheel is also very sensitive)- very seldom can I manage
to do a real slide through a turn.

Ok, lesson #1 then: IT'S NOT CALLED RALLY RACING!!!!!!

;-)

Pendulum swings or scandinavian flicks are done for a couple of
reasons... One is that if you lug around on a lot of polar moment of
inertia(like many rallycars do, being semi- or bog standard production
cars), corner turn-in can be difficult on gravel. The low grip and
huge sliprates on gravel can make steering input very sluggish. So you
swing the car and time the last one to get just the right amount when
you arrive at the corner. This isn't as prevalent IRL as it used to
be, nowadays they can get around most of this by car setup.

Another reason is that you expose all four tyres to "dig in" into the
road, although I don't think this is actually modelled in any rallysim
to date.

As for sliding, the key is to turn in early. When you think you've
turned in way too early, it's probably too late. Then you need to
carry enough speed to "miss" the apex so to speak. WRT to Rally
Masters, you often don't even have to brake at all even in places
you'd think so, just lift, turn in early, then MASH that throttle.
