You need to use a program designed for use with games like N2.  N2 is
not made for Internet play, but for Network play.  Kali is a good
program to use.  It makes N2 think it's being played on a Network
instead of the Internet.  You can get a demo to try for 15 minutes at
a time, but for a lifetime of unlimited use you will need to register
it for $20.  You can play alot more games than just N2 on it, so it
definitely is worth it.

Take a look a Kali.  An Internet ipx substitute.  Many folks race
N2 regularly on the Where to Race server on the Kali grid.  Kali will
cost you 20 bucks, but from then on, all updates are free and all
gametime is free(minus your internet costs of course)
great deal

 Hello Mitch

I've had much better luck using Heat, net than kali (lower latency).  Best of
all it's free!  Just point your browser to www.heat.net and sign up.  You
will also need to download and install the katalyst software.  From your
main Heat page go to games, then go to "other IPX games".  You can play any
IPX compatible game here also.  The biggest problem that I've had with heat
is lack of other Nascar2 racers.  I have a list of emails to set up races,
this helps out.  If you get setup on heat drop me an email at
