SCGT demo M3 wheel spin?

by LoQt » Tue, 18 May 1999 04:00:00

How easy is it supposed to be to break the rear wheels free from a
standing start with the M3 in the demo? Mine seems rather sedate, but
I have super braking. I'm thinking the game isn't using my
Thrustmaster Grand Prix 1 wheel properly. It's hard to bring the rear
end around going through Big Bend at full tilt. When it does come
around, with the throttle pinned, it's pretty easy to recover. I can
spin 'em in the grass, but when I hit pavement, it hooks up and just
pulls away. When I started fiddling with the button assignments, I
lost throttle when I turned the wheel, but I had like 1000hp when I
held it straight. The brakes were kind of soft then. I had to unbind
the control paddles (throttle, brake), run the game with the keyboard
and then then re-assign the paddles in order to get it where it is
now. I've played with the calibration in game controller settings
(W98) by only moving the paddles a little when promted to move the
wheel and throttle fully several times, and that seems to have helps
pick up a little more throttle, but the brakes got even better, too.
The GP1 wheel has the throttle and brake on the same axis, by the way.
Any ideas?

These are a great improvement to the demo, which is atrocious, but
even the full version leaves a something to be desired in this
department.
You can accelerate so hard out of a corner it's ridiculous, and I
still find the spins extremely fishy, despite others that disagree
with my opinion that they're canned.

Still the most fun I've had with a racing game in a long time.

I should add that the wheel works fine with GPL and VR.

Thanks. I tried the patch and it made the car much more fun to
throw around in the corners, but it still pulls clean from a standing
start with the throttle pinned in first.
It's not like I get some kind of
mouth-breathing-drool-dribbling-down-the-chin thrill out of boilin'
the meats at the starting line for hours on end. ;-) I'm really just
trying to rule out a hardware problem. If everybody else finds
throttle modulation important in the demo, and I don't, I'd think it's
my wheel or something. If the demo is supposed to be this way, and the
advanced options editor makes throttle modulation out of a turn
important, I'd say it's a keeper.
