N4: low angle impact and front-end damage?

by R Keatin » Mon, 26 Mar 2001 08:00:34

At times I unintentionally brush up against the wall and am happy that there
is no damage (realistic damage is selected).   Sometimes I brush the wall
hard or at such an angle that there should be damage but none occurs.
Either the front alignment should go out or the tire should blow.

Does anyone else feel the wall contact at low angles is too forgiving?  Does
N4 even have moderate damage to the front end alignment?  I've seen drastic
damage to a front wheel, but I don't think I've ever experienced the GPL
like moderate damage that alters the front suspension.

Thanks,
Russell

Didn't GPL have a MAGIC UNBREAKABLE nose?
if you hit a wall dead on so only the nose piece made contact...no
problem...drive on...but come in at an angle,
and bent suspension or flat tire would result...I think I remember folks
posting about that.
So perhaps N4 has carried that bug over...if you are gonna crash...make
sure you get turned 90degrees to the wall before impact.  :)  (and yes the
sad irony of that isn't wasted on me.)

Personally, I'll never complain about never hearing "Heavy Wheel Damage"
again :)

The "realistic" damage is along way off realistic.  We'll see if the patch
fixes it...

Speaking of crashes...  There was talk about dumming down the physics
for N4 for when ever a car get in to a situation where it would flip.  Looks
like it was dumbed down  ten fold.  Every car I see catch air, it seems to
go in slow motion and have about 1/3rd gravity effects.  Grant it I'm not
racing to see who can flip the most times, but still for as advanced the
physics are over N1,2,3, you would think they wouldn't give a canned effect
for flipping. Also many times it seems to try it's best to get you back on
to all 4 wheels.  It's as if something invisible gave you an added push just
to help you right your self.  Another words... not only canned effects but
arcadish effects :-(  Those would be more then welcomed in the "Arcade"
setup, but Simulation setup is a different story.

I agree.

Marc.
