Europress Rally Championship

I have just purchased Rally Championship & I thought I might give it a
bit of a review.

Good

1. Cars look pretty good & sound OK.
2. Handling is a bit soft but its easy to get used to it.
3. Lots of different tracks.
4. The road isnt always flat (left to right) so you get stuck
driving    on a bit of an angle which is cool.
5. Works well over a modem.
6. Has both an Arcade mode & a more realistic mode.
7. Co Driver calls type of corner coming up (easy hard etc)

Bad

1. You cant go off the track, you just bounce back which leads to
bits    where you get to a thin section & just bounce from side to side.
2. It would be a good two player (one machine) game but there is no
ability to do this.
3. Not enough info in the manual.
4. Not enough car setup things to change.
5. Car damage is not realistic enough & not shown on the car.

Thats all I can come up with for now.  any comments you have feel free
to blast them back to me.

I think its awful that a game does not support VGA!
Sure you can make the textured road in VGA and the grass to, but
the rest of the surrounding is textures SVGA.
If you really want true speed, youre still stuck with VGA.

IT DOES NOT MATTER AT ALL IF THE CAR LOOKS JUST LIKE THE REAL THING,
IF YOU CANT GET A DEASENT FRAMERATE DONT BOTHER!

And the handling of the car is really bad to!

Soryy about my temper, but I had to get it out!

This is BAD, as you are actually able to gain speed by bouncing
instead of losing it.

Heh, try out Europress' F1 Manager if you want to see an
incomplete manual... I returned that game back to store (it
lacked promised online help too).

I have yet to see how changing brake balance affects
manoveurability as I almost never have to brake :(

Agreed. The damage should be much easier to imply. You can roll
the car around at each corner without a scratch. I had to work
hard for several stages to get my electrics and lights go out
(wanted to drive a rainy night session with no headlights and
wipers :) OTOH, gears begin dropping quite easily with the
slightest damage to gearbox and/or clutch.

One more:
6. jumping gives you a 10 kph boost each time, so you can end up
with quite unrealistic top speeds.

But all in all, Rally Championship is still a good game.

You said it!
It's a good GAME (no simulator), and it fills a big hole of missing
Rally-games out
there, and it's FUN, FUN, FUN in network-mode (8 players max (IPX)).
Network-play
is limited in the "Individual" mode of the game (no time-tries,
Championship or arcade)
but only standard Select Track, Car and then flat out.

I also thought that I was driving faster without braking and turning in the
sharp turns, (Only bumping around the corner), but that's not true.  Try to
go faster than the opponents in level 4 or 5 with only bumping-corners, and
you'll loose.

T2 works like a charm in this game!

Unrealistic top speeds ?

If anyone fancies a challenge try and beat my best recorded top speed of
a fraction
over 203 MPH (I did 205 but it was in the single stage setting and so
didn't record
the speed).

Of course you'll have to mess around with the gearing a bit but it's
worth it to see the enourmous crashes you get at that sort of speed!

Cheers,

I agree. FUN is the word. I am totally ***ed to this game.

I have found that if you make the suspension really soft you get
heaps better traction.

Try doing time trials, but turn off the other cars, and go for
lap records. It's great.

Cheers..

Wow, you actually managed to get the lights to go out completely!!!!!!
I have tried but I gave up as I thought it was impossible.
