Maybe I just suck but it seems I cannot do better than 7 or 8th place in
career. The other cars flat leave my ass at the starting line and I never
can catch up. I have tried automatic and standard shifting and am tired of
the same three tracks. Do I have to race over and over until I get the money
to build a faster car or am I doing something wrong? How do i move my career
to diferent tracks?

You just have to get better by practicing. Try using the setups that are
available on the Sierra website. Also I think that you will eventually be faster
by using the manual shifting.
I am stuck at the pro level...can't beat the AI on Rock Island.
Good Luck

I just moved from the Pro level to the GT level, and I'm right back
where you are now.  I think that when you start out at the amateur
level in Career Mode, you have a base car, while the competition may
have several upgrades.  I started out just like you initially, but
practice -- plus money and upgrades -- soon had me placing higher and
winning races.  So,  trust me -- you're not doing anything wrong.  I
found that my time as a "backmarker" really helped me improve my
driving ability, so it's not wasted time.

Have you tried taking the traction control off?  YOu do also have to
build your car up somewhat.  The AI in VR is pretty hard to beat
sometimes,  you just have to keep working at a track to shave off
extra seconds.  You don't have to win all the races, but you do have
to place well consistently to get the championship.

Heh, Nussbaum had me cursing in my sleep when I first started out.  Don't
forget to try other views.  For example, my best times at Dundas were done
with the 'suspension cam.'  And if/when you get frustrated, set up the most
horrendous crash you can involving as many cars as possible ;o)

Have fun,
