N2- is it fixed yet?

by Richard Busc » Mon, 14 Apr 1997 04:00:00

I've read on this board about the numerous bugs etc. in N2. I was
wondering if it had been fixed yet?
I was also wondering how it would run on my machine. I have a 486
upgraded to the 83 Mhz overdrive, a 1 MB cirrus Logic video board, 32 Mb
RAM.

Thanks for any response,

 Richard

The slowest part of your system is the 1mb video.  This is what needs to
be upgraded for serious racing.  If you don't, I guarantee lots of
choppiness in N2.  For a mere $265 you can get the Diamond Stealth 64
(3000 series) with 4Mb of VRAM in the PCI flavor.  Don't get DRAM cuz it
is much slower than VRAM.

And no, N2 is still buggy.

I disagree.  I have a video card with 1 meg ram and have no problems with
all textures on..

Is not DRAM faster with dos apps (e.g. NASCAR 2)?  I could, of course,
be mistaken.  Have a nice day.

Acceptable frame rate is in the eye of the beholder...

After RENDITION, less than 30fps is like playing a game in a
strobe light.

I doubt seriously if he could use any PCI card in his formerly 486
system.
He is probably stuck with the old style video cards.. N2 is going to be
mighty slow.....

I do have a PCI slot open. I guess I could upgrade to a PCI video board.

          really

i've been very patient have yet to complain about the lack of speed on
getting a patch out but I believe this is a bit crazy... i've had my
copy now for over 4 months and have yet to see anything to fix it.
this may well be my last piece of papyrus software due to their
inability to produce a patch.  I've worked as a programmer and realize
it takes time but when you have as many customers as N2 does I don't
see any reason to release partial patches, especially when the game is
unplayable in multiplayer mode (unless you play with damage off).

I've had a lot of people ask me about it before they buy it and i've
told them not to buy it and will continue to do so until papyrus does
something about the software.
