NFSPU: CD player incompatible

Hi

I read of some latest game might give some
problems to the older CD ROM player.

I guess I just found mine.
This NFSPU cd would just spin on my player.
There would not even be a cd label, nothing.

But when I go into ms-dos only mode, it was able to
give dir, and I was able to read some files.
( this must mean the CD is ok )

I have a 12x IDE Optics CDROM ( yes it is old )
I wonder if there is any utility that will allow
such older drives to be compatible with the latest
CD ROM format .......or whatever that will work
for NSFPU.
I dont have a budget for a new cd player yet :-(

I had the same prob - the answer is possibly a new CD-ROM drive.  Mine is 2
years old (24x) and it has trouble reading any media disc - I tried cleaning
the lens but to no avail.

This may seem like a dumb question, but have you tried browsing the cd
from within windows.  If you can do this then it may be possible to find
the appropriate setup file and double-click on it to get things started.

Alternatively, you could try getting the nsfpu cd replaced from where
you bought it, it could just be slightly off centre which I've heard can
cause problems and results in the cd-rom player spinning like crazy but
not finding anything.
