T1 Control Problem

by Nick Totor » Sat, 20 Apr 1996 04:00:00

Right now, I'm running a P90 with 24mb of RAM, a Diamond Stealth 64
(PCI) with 2mb VRAM and a Sound Blaster 16. I'm having a problem with my
T1 in that steering responses from the wheel don't tend to translate
themselves to the screen for actual play very quickly. This tends to be
a problem moreso in NASCAR racing, NFS and ICR2. Is this my game port or
more likely something to do with the frame rate? The screen action is
smooth, so I tend to think it's the game port on my SB16 (I'm using my
PCI serial port for my mouse). Would upgrading to the SB32 help... does
it have greater game port capability? This is becoming frustrating. Even
alone on the track, no response at all suddenly turns into instant
oversteer. Please help out a fellow gamer down on his luck  8 (

T1 Control Problem

Hi Nick

My T1 is now 16 months old and I have been experiencing a simmilar
problem but not as severe.   I think the pot in my wheel assembly
might be wearing out.   Just a suggestion.

Cheers,

Craig.

Your problem is that you're running it off your sound card.  The sound card is
interrupt driven, joystick/wheel isn't.  All you need is a $30 adjustable game
card; I recommend the ThrustMaster ACM.  Disable the game port on the sound
card, plug the wheel into the game card, race like a madman.
