Excelent FF implementation by Papy on the GPL 1.1 patch!!!

I'm feeling the weight transfer when cornering, and feel a continual
feedback from the car and the track.  This is unlike any FF game or sim
that I've tried before :)  I'm using the new USB Act Labs Force RS with
TSW2 pedals connected to the game port of my SB Live.

Job well done!

I can't believe this would come out in the morning, right when my work
day has started. ;o)

Ok, now I am mad that I can't get home to try it for a few hours! UGH!

Totally amazing isn't it? I'm using the Logitech FF USB wheel with
similarly stellar results (using the default FF GPL configuration).
Feeling the weight of the car shift (in all four directions yet!) is
unprecedented.

Papyrus just made the job of every other sim developer on the planet
that much harder (uncluding, I might point out, N2000 - will this
level of FF be possible without 3d physics?).

It's even better than ViperRacing's FF. I think, VR tried to help by
adding more wheight transfer effects on the wheel than is realistic,
so you would feel through the wheel what in reality you'd feel in your
body.

Thank god it's friday! Now I need a good excuse to skip that barbeque
party tommorow...

Based on the great reaction to the patch I just went to buy the same wheel
you have and tried it out on GPL.  While FF is pretty cool, I don't seem to
be able to feel as much from it as you.  I'm curious how you are able to
"feel" the weight shift in four directions when FF only works in two?

I've got a MSFF wheel and there a lot of forces going on. I can feel the
wheel go 'firm' and then 'loose' but I have no idea how the forces on the
wheel translate to what the car is doing! Can someone give an explanation of
how weight transfer feels, how driving on the limit feels?

Sorry, I meant six directions - up and down weight shifts as well.
Basically, the steering tightens up when the weight is shifted
downwards or forward. The wieght shifts from side to side are also
simulated, as is tire grip. So for example - you can feel the
horizontal weight/grip at different levels of intensity based on the
up/down and forward/back weight. It's quite incredible. For the first
time I can tell what the car is really doing.

Well, if you want to know how the weight transfer feels, try rocking
it from side to side on the straight.  I can feel a bit of a "bump" in
the wheel as the car catches up with itself.  It's really handy going
through the Masta Kink because I can tell if I've overdone it and the
transfer is going to make it unstable or if I've done OK.

I think the FF is a real boon - it's certainly making my driving more
repeatable.
