Microsoft force feedback racing wheel help please

by Bra » Tue, 19 Feb 2002 15:13:43

I would like to know if the Microsoft racing wheel will fit on my
desk. The problem is I have one of those slide out keyboards and only
about three inches of space between the two surfaces. I have searched
and searched but cant find any specs or even a good picture of the
setup. Everyone who reviews it raves about how easy it is to set up
but no one talks about the actual nuts and bolts of the setup.

I searched this group via google to find the answer but with no
luck.....

Thanks in advance........

Brad

If it looks like a duck,
and quacks like a duck,
its probably a duck!!

Hello Mike,

Thanks for the reply so you hook it up on the keyboard shelf I couldnt
imagine how it would fit on the upper part. How do you like the wheel?

I'm looking at the Microsoft for ease of setup from what I read and
because I have had good luck with Microsoft equipment but also
thinking about the Act Labs and the Logitech Momo.

I had decided against buying the wheel and here I am now two joysticks
and two gamepads later looking at the wheels again......lol......

If you have a keyboard tray below the desk then I doubt any wheel will fit
on the desk, including the MS wheel. Dump the keyboard tray is my
suggestion. I bought a slimline Cicero keyboard so that it doesn't take up
much desk space. Only cost $10.00 CAD too.

I have to remove the keyboard tray when I hook up the MS wheel. But it only
takes about 10 seconds, so it's no big deal.

Moved my keyboard to the desktop, then, since my keyboard tray is only a
half-inch thick I held a small, half-inch board on the underside of the tray
to add more support as I tightened the wheel down.  My only problem is one
of the cats who sits in my lap will hit the "Force" button once in a while
with a paw.  8-)

Ahh the wonders of Velcro....take the clamp mechanism off and use 3 strips
of velcro to attach the wheel,Works a treat on mineand if you use the ***
side on the desk it doesnt interfere with the keyboard.

The cat sits in your lap while you drive?  Does he pay attention to the screen?

Nah.  He's asleep at the wheel.  8-)  He prefers chasing NBA or NHL players
on the TV.  I'm testing a new RPG right now, and some of the sounds in it do
get his attention - even out of a dead sleep.
