Overlapping cable in LWFF

Overlapping cable in LWFF

I've had my LWFF for about a week now (China made) and love the effects.  Just today I started noticing a popping sound when recentering the wheel from a right turn.  There was also an obvious restriction in the wheel that coincided with the sound.  I took the wheel apart, using Jens' instructions, and found that the cable was overlapping as it wound on the small portion of pulley 1 and then freeing itself. That was the pop.  All that I had to do was push the cable back toward the center of the pulley and now all is well again.

Has anyone else had this problem and can I expect it to reccur?  It's not hard to fix, but you have to open the wheel.

Hi Brian!

The only problem I have had with LWFF is that I took it totally apart to try and lubricate away a "kvirking" sound but after many hours of work and help from a friend we managed to get the wire back on :-)) So I advise you to never take off the wire unless you know exactly how to get it back on. Apart from that the wheel has been working very well.

Well done,
This is one of the finetuning procedures which should be done with every wheel
after assembling.
Another prove that the china-factory isn't very interested to put the wheels
together properly.

Jens

BTW Everybody can find out whether the cables are running fine by taking off the
cover and turning (and watching) the wheel to full deflections at least for 30
min. (until understanding).

WARNING:
Leave the wheelstop on the shaft, elswhere you got a reason for the full
dis-/assembly

Hi Hans-Otto,
It's only a matter of training.
I'm just going to break the 10 min-border.
Biggest problem is to forget few things when assembling, e.g. wiring.

Hans, while I had the wheel apart to fix the cable I too attempted to lubricate away that annoying sound.  For fear that a petroleum based lubricant might deteriorate the pulleys, I used graphite key-lock lubricant.  Worked like a charm.  No more squeaks and the wheel seems to move much more freely now (I'm sure not as free as a ball-bearing upgrade though).
