'97 IRL carset - any car pics?

by Mark Gil » Mon, 31 Mar 1997 04:00:00

Hi,

I'm in the process of trying to put together a '97 carset for ICR2, but
I'm struggling to find pictures of the '97 cars to work from.  The
Phoenix race hasn't yet been shown on TV here in Britain, and apart from
at the Brickyard/IRL's official website there don't seem to be many car
pics about, and unfortunately there are only a few of the cars shown at
that site.

If anyone knows of any good sites for pics of the '97 cars, I'd be very
grateful if you could let me know.

Thanks!

You will probably have a difficult time finding IRL pictures considering
not many folks are interested in that so called league.  Don't waste your
time with the IRL, Check out the CART season.  Tony George really screwed
up  a good thing at INDY.  In a matter of time, there will no longer be an
IRL, come on, 8 cars finishing a race is pretty ridiculous!  Check out

Hi Gus!

Yeah, I do appreciate what you're saying, and I am a massive CART fan,
though there are better artists than me out there who produce some
stunning CART carsets, so I'll leave CART sets to them.  I agree that
what has happened to Indy is a disgrace, although I'm just interested in
any Indycar I can get!  It'll certainly be interesting to see if the IRL
does sink or swim.

Thanks for the links, though!

IRL sucks, it's just a money thing Mr. George saw that the Indycar business
was bigger that his stupid (but legendary Indianapolis) track, so made an
stupid league to make more money supposing to support American only teams,
manufacturers and drivers. Got no support and see now there is Nissan in it
(Very American) just for being named that it'll run the Indy500, latin
american drivers, and some other things.

CART series is heading in the right direction getting competitive not
legendary, changing rules and everything to make it better. and BTW how
thinks that racing is or will ever be cheap, just take your car to local
circuit and try to compete on any amateur series to see if you can support
even that!

Racing is just a show with many ways to get involved, suporting it is one
of them, personally I flew to the first Homestead Indy Race, and raced my
personal mustang in a local track, (arriving second in one race). but now I
just dream on with simulation

I had the pleasure of seeing the Phoenix race.  I must say that it was
an exciting race if you went.  Sure CART was a great series, but no way
could a guy like Jim Guthrie ever win a race.  I never enjoyed watching
Formula 1 races and CART is heading in that direction.  Did you see that
race today, Villaneuve (don't know if that is the correct spelling) and
Villaneuve.  Been to CART races at Phoenix.  It wasn't any better or
worse.  CART was great once until the likes of Penske screwed it up.
Yeah, the Michigan 500 was a great race last year! :(  IRL is a good
league and as with any new league they're gonna have problems.  I'd just
wait to make statements about IRL, and when they've passed their
teething stage I will be there.
