Watching the replay of the Richmond race and everytime they
replay the "incident" with Gordon and Wallace I just have to smile
when I hear all the cheering when Gordons car bit it. It jst feels
right

I'm not chest-thumping Gordon fan, but I find this behavior odd. Why do
people hate him? My believe is that it has more to do with the
limitations of those that dislike Jeff than Jeff himself. Love him or
hate him, he's got what most of them want, great talent, money, looks,
fame and a hot wife. Why does it "feel right?" Is it because he is
somehow evil or that he has the things that you want, but will never
have?

There was an article on this phenomenon on SpeedNet recently. Will your
beloved NASCAR be better without him? I don't think so. He can do
anything he wants and he chooses NASCAR. Perhaps having idiots boo him
and throw beer cans at his car will encourage him to turn to open-wheel
racing where he would likely succeed as well. He would be a treat to
watch at 16th and Georgetown.

What the hell, keep booing.

I am not a big fan off Gordon but I don't enjoy the hate towards someone
that most of the other Nascar drivers will admit, is one of the best
ever.
When Gordon first came up to Winston Cup I made a prediction he was
going to be good. When the band-wagon started, I got off. I never liked
Earnhardt in his hayday but I was tickled to see him win the Daytona 500
this year. I root for Mark Martin, Jeff Burton and others who don't have
the Cup championship yet.
Point being fans should enjoy a good race and a few crashes and just
stick to disliking their bosses or inlaws and enjoy racing for what it
is.
JUST MY OPINION

I think it has more to do with the fact that when Gordon's in a race,
there is a lesser chance that another driver can or will win.  One of
the reasons NASCAR is so "hot" is that the fans identify with a driver
of choice.  If that driver isn't Gordon, they are not going to enjoy
Gordon doing well.  Also, since he wins so often and so easily it sorta
takes the sails out of the race.  Unless he screws up or gets involved
in an incident, the odds are he will beat one's favorite driver.  If he
didn't win so much and didn't do so well, people wouldn't "cheer" when
he gets taken out of competition.  It goes with the territory (it used
to Dale Earnhardt that got that kind of fan reaction).
