GP2 Modem play BLOWS...

Modem play in GP2 blows.
Real nice chat system there Microprose - did you rip that from one of
your mid 80's flight sims?  Totally useless.

Oh and I love the ability to sit and STARE at my screen while the other
player makes changes to his car settings.  I guess Indycar and Nascar
were well ahead of their time in that respect.  Another major failure.

And why does the game play in  s l o w  motion on my P100 when I'm linked
up with a fellow racer?  Fantastic.  I really like the one second pause
before any steering or button inputs are reacted too.  And that's with an
"estimated" 18 fps.

GP2 is adequate as a stand alone game.
It blows as a modem game.

I'm playing via mode between a P133 and a P90 (one w/ 14.4 and one at 28.8). We
connect at 9600 and get _no_ appreciable slow down in frame rate or performance
in modem play. It's just like stand alone. Try dropping the baud rate.

GP2 Modem play BLOWS...

Well me and a friend spent 5 hours today trying to get GP2 and modem
play to work smothly and I've come to the conclusion that it isn't
going to work very well.

Systems

Both Machines   6x86 p150+
Ram  mine 32meg   His 32 Meg
Video cards Both Diamond Stealth 2meg
Modems US Robotics 33.6

we tried under DOS 6.22 & Win95

All textures are off, SVGA on, no objects on

modem settings US Robotics modems set -- The machines would not
connect any faster than 32600 the game was very slow starting off in
quick race and would freeze every 3 seconds .

We then tried US robotics type II this was a bit faster but not
much. This really turned into a whole waste of 5 hours as we never got
a descent frame rate going and the pauses were just so annoying.

We ended up going back to Indycar 2 as least this plays well over the
modem and I think this is what most people will end up doing,as i cant
see anyone wanting to play a championship season with a freind and do
a whole race that should only take 1.57min  take at least 3 hours in
modem ( molaises) mode.It really breaks my heart that we cant play
this over the modem.

Jeff has written a good game here and I will play it alot but i dont
think that the guy knows how to do modem code ,and Ive Papyrus got
there act together and wrote a F1 game like Indy 2 they would really
steel the thunder from this game .

-- Modem works great, set baud 19200 switch off errorand data correction,
switch settings so estimated frame rate is about 18fps then pick 8fps it
works brill.
