Enable_Shift_R= 1                 ;1 is on, 0 is off
Enable_Shift_R_Flag=1        ;1 enables black flags for shiftR events, 0 is
off
Shift_R_Flag_Time=xxx         ; Time in seconds that car is held in pits

    The use of shift R should be a host setting variable that is independent
of the damage setting. This would enable use of the fragile pro setting cars
with the use of the shift R command. Why do this?The 'net is not perfect and
it seems a bit much to be eliminated because a car on a full server
disappeared for a while on the first lap and then reapppeared in the middle
of the pack. On the other hand the pro damage setting still encourages more
realistic (relative term, I know) setups and driving since the cars are
fragile.
    The second line allows the server to set a black flag in the event of a
shift R by the player. This is similar to the penalty black flag assigned if
you cut corners on the track. This would keep shift R from being used
casually for pit stops.
    Third line simply defines the degree of penalty assigned to the shift R
event. It would be cumulative so that multiple shift R's on same lap would
result in greater penalty.
    If all these are host configurable then you can tailor to your specs and
have added some more flexibilty to GPL

How about

  AllowShiftR=1
  ShiftRInPits=1

This would allow shift-R, but only if you're in your pit stall.  I think
this is better than getting a black flag.  "1" would be allowing Shift-R
in pits only, 0 would be allowing shift-R anywhere on the track.  This
would also be more realistic (for me) in terms of racing because if you
damage your car to the point you can't make it back to the pits, you're
out of the race.  If you can make it back to your pit stall, you should
be allowed to get the car fixed.  Lastly, limping back to the pits in
order to shift-r can often be a much more harsh penalty than a black
flag.

    What the heck, lets get Papyrus to implement them all! Thats the neat
thing about switches, they can be off or on and you can "have it your way"
:)
    I take your point about crawling around to the pits. I was really
thinking more about those shattering warp induced crashes ( rather than
driver induced errors) that project your car into low earth orbit. It
generally doesn't survive the landing in limpable form. I realize that shift
r'ing on the track is not sim reality, such as it is, but is really more of
a gameplay issue.
    Anyway it would be good to have more configuration options in GPL online

GPL --a couple of new host.ini lines I'd like to see

Jeez, I suggested this a week after GPL came out.  I tried to get everyone
to agree that by far the biggest problem with GPL is the lack of proper (for
1967 F1) pit stops.  I said forget fancy graphics and animated pit crews,
etc.  I would be happy to just sit there for some period of time (hopefully
related to the severity of the problem) and then rejoin the race.

Is it reasonable to drive for 7/8 of the race and have a slight wheel
problem (say from a gentle grazing of a wall)--something that would be fixed
in a jiffy in '67 if you could make it back to your pit stall--that then
ends your race??  I don't think so and I wish (continue to wish) someone
could alter GPL in this manner.

Marc.
