My wife's BIG SECRET!

My wife's BIG SECRET!

by Dave Henri » Sat, 08 Apr 2000 04:00:00

She says it didn't mean anything to her.
She says it was a long time ago.
She says it was nothing special.

And "I'M SUPPOSED TO BELEIVE HER???"

I was flipping channels this afternoon and came across a Speedvision
show about the Dodge Daytonna and Plymouth Superbird.  As most children
of the 60's will attest, the end of the decade with it's Muscle car era
was a golden time for any pre-*** wanting to drive.  The '69 Boss 302
Fastback Mustang, the Camaro, the 'Cuda  and....the Superbirds.  It was
a magical time.  But since I grew up in a very small town, I never got
to see many muscle cars up close.  I honestly got to see a 'Bird only
once on the road.  We were traveling to Montana or Yellowstone and I was
up top in the camper.  Suddenly we came around a bend and it flew
by...Brilliant Lime Green with black-painted headlight covers.  The
Wing, the Snout...I talked about it for days...and...as you can tell,
never forgot it.
So here I am watching the show, My wife comes in and I immeadiately
start bugging her about the AeroCars.  She hates cars in general and
racing in paticular so any chance I get I start a racing related
conversation, just to bug her.  Well today, she paid me back....in
spades.
"Look at the Wing!" I spouted...
"Oh yeah, kinda like the one I rode in when I was 14."
  "WHAT??"
"It was some Ugly Orange color with a black stripe around the trunk."
"That would be the Daytona!"  I says...
"Whatever, it was nice and loud with lots of performance stuff, but
the guy was kinda wierd, we did a lot of kissing and that was it.."
"AND YOU NEVER TOLD ME ABOUT THIS?????"
"What?  About kissing a guy 25 years ago?"
NO!  That you actually RODE in a Daytona...I can't beleive it.  Ya
think ya know someone and then,,,then they drop a bombshell like that on
ya......"

I've spent the rest of the night all wierded out.  I don't know how to
deal with this...

Oh, God.  This is not good.  Apparently the deadly sim-***ion-virus has
mutated into something new and even more bizarre.

Dave, whatever you do, DO NOT look at want ads for classic or muscle cars
for at least 72 hours.  And if you start turning bright orange (especially
with a black stripe on your butt), get to the emergency room immediately.

Regards,

Kurt

There is some truth to your words.  Ever since looking through the NFS:PU
web site, I have taken more than a passing interest in the newspaper ads for
classic Porsches.  It's a case of long dormant lust reawakening.  I better
get the game this weekend to satisfy the urge, because a little voice in my
brain keeps whispering "psssst.... 1983 911 SC, mint condition, 16000 Swiss
Francs with warranty..."

Then again, I might go right past the software shop and look at that SC.
Just looking, mind you.  Heh heh...

I don't think buying the game will help.
I ran the "demo" version og NFS-PU for a week before it was released
and I actually got my legal copy of NFS-PU and did a test drive in a
944 the same day. Signed the contract for the 944 the next day, and
now I've got both. :-)

I don't have PU yet, I'm afraid I'll think it's, well.....Peeeuuuwww.
I'm a realism freak, so sue me.

However, if I DO end up getting it, being the realism freak that I am, I'll
be playing it sitting in the driver's seat of a 1958 356A Normal Coupe. I
could even use the hood for a monitor stand, and look at it through the
windshield.

Gotta clean out my ba***t one of these days.

Okay Dave. It wasn't orange with a black stripe, it was yellow with a black
stripe. It was a Super Bee. Geez, her memory is as bad now as it was then.

Oh me too. I was house hunting and actually was looking for a two car
garage so I can buy a classic 911 and store it. I did buy the two car
garage and am pretty serious (right now) about the 911; so much so I
have been avoiding the ads. Luckily I don't take possession for a while
and my apartment buildings garage doesn't have any spaces left (not that
I would trust leaving a 911 down there ....)

You're a realism freak so you're afraid you won't like NFS:PU?  I know
that NFS3 and NFSHS were weak in the realism department, but, good
gawd, man, don't prejudge NFS:PU based solely on past titles --
download the demo and then see what you think.  I rank it right up
there with Viper Racing -- EXCELLENT physics, IMO!

Then again, many of us know that already -- and YOU'RE the one who's
missing out.  How realistic is THAT? <G>

I love GPL and Viper Racing physics wise, but I didn't like the physics in
NFS:PU's demo at all.  Maybe it was because I was too distracted by the three
foot viewing distance though....

Man, I couldn't afford the INSURANCE on a 911...<G>  I'm more partial to the
944, anyway...

Well, I don't know about Paul, but one of the advantages of waiting until
the ripe old age of 32 before pursuing my ***age dreams is that they are
now surprisingly affordable.  The 911SC I drooled over in 1983 is now only
about 17,000 SFr (about 11,000 USD), which is the same as a used Golf, and
my friendly insurance man just quoted me under 1000.- SFr per year to cover
it, only a 300.- jump from my Toyota (the condition being that I drive it
less than 10,000 a year).  Sweet.

Scary ... I'm 32 also. I can't say I am approaching a mid-life crisis;
always a serious case of Porsche lust. Usually for the 944 turbo, but
more and more for the 911. I figure around here I can only drive it
about 6-7 months, light mileage, should be able to do OK with the
insurance. Just gotta try not to kill myself. Sigh. NFSPU has NOT helped
this unhealthy lusting.
