It's there, Ray. I've been there before. (It only has a few
messages, though.) I think the newsgroup is brand new, so you'll have
to command your newsgroup reader to "Get New Groups," then maybe it'll
be in your list.

It sounds like your Internet Service Provider does not carry this
newsgroup. You might send them some e-mail asking if they can include
this group in their coverage.

I just posted a UUE binary to alt.binaries.simulators.autos.
It's an executable file that allows you to vary each driver's (low and
high) power, traction and drag settings in the DRIVERS2.TXT file at
random. I wrote it for my own use, but thought someone else may be
interested.
Even the most consistant drivers have a bad day now and then. For
example, Dale Earnhardt runs up front most of the time, but sometimes his
setup is off and he runs back in mid pack. If you set the DRIVERS2.TXT
settings wide enough to allow for that, then it happens more often in the
simulator than it does in real life.
This program allows you to set his settings up so that he runs up toward
the front like you normally do (unless you're a Ford man). But it also
allows you to set a chance (1 in 1-9) that his Power, Traction and Drag
settings will be adjusted by X% to slow him down. So, you may set it up
to have 1 chance in 9 of having his settings reduced by 30% (drag is
increased). If that number comes up, then the settings are adjusted and
he slows down. Otherwise, they are left alone.
You can also go the opposite way. Bobby Hamilton generally runs mid-pack,
but once in a while he really gets hooked up and runs up front. If you
want, you can give him a 1 in 7 chance of having his settings adjusted up
by 20% so he runs up front.
Each car, including yours, can be set up with a different likelyhood and %
adjustment.
I've also included a program that evens out the settings of all cars for
super speedway races. The computer figures the average of all car
settings in the DRIVERS2.TXT file. Then it narrows each cars settings
toward the average by a % you specify. Entering 25% would narrow the
variation from the average for each car to 25% of what the variation from
the average was before you ran the program.
Both programs work from a copy of the DRIVERS2.TXT file, so you have a
"fresh" text file every time you run the program. I've set mine up to run
every time I boot up so the opponents settings are varied for each race.
Give it a look if you want. Just read the READ1ST.TXT file and follow the
trail from there.

For those of you who do not have access to the above newsgroup, I am
making this nifty little utility available via my AutoSim web page at:
