Check out this picture and tell me those rears aren't as wide as modern
day cars! Granted they're radials, there sure is a lot of area for grip.
Although I must say, I like the looks of this car a TON better than any
modern day cars as well. :)

Those tires are definetly bigger than the ones on the Eagle in the game. :)

It's a little modern day trick called "downforce".  That's what holds the rear
end to the ground.  That and the modern day racing tire isn't as hard.  The
softer the tire, the better the traction

ITs kinda the difference from having a really good street tire on a car and
running the car hard and then putting purpose made racing tires on and
doing the same thing.  There is a big difference in the amount of grip and
how the tire looses grip.  A modern racing tire looses grip very quickly
when  pushed past its limit where the street tire will howl and slide move
before you end up hitting that tree  at the exit of the corner you are
trying to go thru.

That picture is of Dan Gurney today in the historic car. No doubt the car
has been campaigned a bit in vintage car races over the years and the wheels
and tires have clearly been updated. If that was 1967 ***, we'd all be
able to keep up with Ian Lake and Greger Huttu (assuming, of course, that
those two continued to run on the authentic stuff) ;)

Check out the photo of the same car during its winning run at Spa in '67 at:

http://www.allamericanracers.com/gallery/galf111.html

The tires actually used then were MUCH narrower; about 20% on the back and
maybe 33% on the front.  Bet Dan wishes he'd had those fat ones back in '67!

Wonder where I can get some for my Lotus.....

Cheers,
