Greetings all -
I have Need for Speed non-SE. My friend has SE. Will we be able to play
modem games ? Also, we each have a network card and play various
IPX-based games. In the head-to-head setup, do I need a modem cable or
can we use the network ? I know NFS SE can handle IPX, but I don't know
about old NFS.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Don't know about the modem part, but I'm pretty sure the original NFS
doesn't support IPX.

Correct. Adding IPX support was one of the major
improvements made to SE. In my experience, however, the modem
support of SE is not as reliable as that of the original NFS, so it
may be a trade-off...

Here are the answers to your questions :
No, I asked EA about this myself and got the reply that the track art
was too different and so they would not be compatible.
The original NFS doesn't support network play, only modem or direct
link, SE supports network play for upto 8 players, but only under
Windoze 95. To play direct link, either you'll have to get SE, or your
friend will have to get the original NFS, but it should work fine if you
are both running the same version(SE or non-SE).
