Rendition V2200 Compatibility? Papy?

by ccorpor » Fri, 15 Aug 1997 04:00:00

I'm sure many of you are aware that the next rendition board the V2200 is
about 1-3 months away (conflicting reports).

Is it compatible with the V1100. None of the latest press releases state that
it is.

If not it seems that it will support GL and D3D along with it's newer
proprietary language.

Where does that leave Nascar 2?

Does this mean we have to stick with the V1100 until Nascar 3? Man that sounds
like were gonna have second rate equipment by then.

The paradox of this whole story imo is that Papy used to have more ports of
Nascar to specific cards than about any other product. Now they are limiting
themselves to just SVGA and V1100. Now if V2200 is compatible then all this
should be ignored assuming it really is 100% compatible (possible
re-compile?).

Does anybody else see this situation coming up? We basically have no answers
to this at the moment.

Comments? E.B.?

Thank you.

Don't worry, it looks like we'll be okay on this issue. To be more
specific, the Rendition V2200 card supports the Speedy3D API which is
what Rendition ICR2, Nascar2, VQuake etc. use. So it looks like a card
based on this chip will be the way to go soon. In addition, here is some
seriously fat icing on the cake.

From the Hercules Press Release:

"In order to offer the most powerful, versatile, and complete solution,
the Hercules Thriller 3D supports all major operating systems and 3D
APIs including Windows 3.11, Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Windows 95,
Windows NT 4.0, OS/2 Warp, AutoCAD, OpenGL, and DirectX 5, Speedy3D, and
RRedline. Powerful drivers for ``Memphis'' and Windows NT 5.0 are under
development".

So with Open GL (NT and Win95), DirectX 5 (Direct 3D and Direct Draw in
Win95 and NT), video and s-video in and out, 230 mhz DAC and 125 mhz
SGRAM, available in pci and agp versions, it sounds like a kick ass
setup with the 4 meg going for $179 and the 8 meg for $249.

I would, however, wait a little while after the first cards come out to
see how they perform in 2D and how the support is. I have also heard
that Intergraph, Diamond, and Canopus will be producing V2200 based
cards.

Yes, and it should be much faster than the V1000 cards with Rendition Ready
titles.
