% Hi, I am a little confused, I have just built my own pedals/steering wheel
% and find that grand prix 2 interprets the accelerator and brake the reverse
% way round to windows95 controller panel which means of course that all
% native win95 race games work opposite to gp2 unless they have a feature to
% reverse this which so far I have found only in ms cart racing. So do I set
% the pedals to work correctly with win95 or do I set them especially for
% gp2, I would rather them work correctly for both. The other puzzling thing
% is that I play su27 flanker (a military flightsim) which is native win95
% and when I switch my pedals to rudder mode, (joystick 2 x axis) the pedals
% only operate the right way around if I have them wired to suit gp2.
% Anyway I would appreciate it if someone can tell if either I am doing
% something wrong or if there is a way to reverse the pedals through software
% in gp2 or win95, maybe a hack of some sort, thanks.
For just about all you need about making your own wheel & pedal setups
go to http://www.oz.net/~wottenad/wheel.htm
This site should answer this question and more.
Many Win95 programs do not recognize pedals when they are on a different
axis than the wheel. However, more and more programs are coming out
that can be configured with different combinations. I think the
standard configuration for Win95 is wheel on the x1 axis and the gas on
the y1 axis (forward or -) and the brakes on y1 axis (back or +).
Sometimes the way a program recognizes your setup in Win95 is how it is
configured via the Control Panel applet for either joystick or game
controller (the latter is with DirectX 5 -- I believe). You can
download ThrustMaster's ProPanel applet which has various settings for
different setups and combinations
<ftp://208.129.210.78/pub/library/calibration/propanelv11.exe>.
Thrustmaster's new wheel and pedal unit (NASCAR Pro or Formula 1 Pro)
have a switch which allows you to set the pedals to the same axis (Y1)
or on 2 different axis (gas=Y1 negative & brake = X2 positive).
As for GP2, if you calibrate and select your controller as "controller
driven", you can come up with about as many combos as you want over the
4 axis.
