SCGT online RACING has potential!!!

by James Pickar » Sat, 19 Jun 1999 04:00:00

I just finished racing a few races online.. with friends in the US (i'm
in Australia) and nearby...

Even with 500ping.. the racing was GREAT..   close..  no discoes..  only
2 ppl connecting..
this is what I found:

   * Set graphics to MINIMUM -  make sure everyone is running full FPS
   * Set DATA rate to 4hz for one play,  not sure about more tho..  any
     thoughts??
   * Make sure everyone is running the same sounds..  -  for saftey..
     run at 11khz sound level
   * Ensure eveyone has the same versoin
   * best config:  1.551 Patch,  Advance Options Editor set to PURE SIM
   * GT3 cars seem teh best..  but that is a personal preference more
than anything..  GTQ seems a bit hard to get catch up..
   * has the ability to run SPEED COMPENSATION..  - ok not SIM..  but
makes for GREAT ONLINE RAICNG..   and simulates slip-streaming..
unfortunately left out on SCGT  :-(
   * Any others??

That is waht I have found..  if you have any more.. plz buzz me..  if
you want to race   I'm in Australia..  looking for FAST Australians for
some really FUN racing...

check it out..

SCGT online RACING has potential!!!

Hmm, I had an online SCGT race last night too.  We used GT2.  After a lot of
problems, we finally got going (I think one of the problems was that I was
using an add-on car at first, but then I switched).

The disappointing part was when the green light came, for all (and I mean
ALL) the other cars simply rocketed away.  Apparently infinite car parts
were allowed, and my bog-standard 911 was therefore a dog.  I make no claims
to being the fastest driver around, but I was close to being lapped towards
the end of my very first lap!  Entirely unrealistic--felt sooo arcade.

Maybe I'm simply griping, but it would be nice if some some sort of
standards could be implemented.  Perhaps I should have asked before the race
what the parameters were.  I guess I'm spoiled by GPL in that regard.

From reading your post, you sound like the guy who was racing with us last
night.  You don't have infinite car parts.  You just have your modified cars
with maxed out turbos, tires, suspensions, air intakes, etc.  If you thought it
felt arcade in multiplayer, wouldn't you of thought the same the first time you
raced in a quick race or season?  Just use isi-aardvark to get credits, buy a
GT2 car and max it out.  Also, the game parameters are shown on the right hand
side (such as wear rate, damage, mods allowed or not, track, laps, AI cars,
etc.).  Maybe next time you'll have a more pleasant racing experience.
