GPL sound probs with sblive set to more than one wave...

by Rafe McAulif » Fri, 17 Mar 2000 04:00:00

Have had a *** problem with GPL since my Win98 installation died a
*** death about 3 weeks ago. I had an old installation of Win95b on
another drive which I have been using, which is fine in everything,
except GPL. *** sound problem whereby when the revs of the engine
change quickly (ie in neutral, 1st gear or when wheels spin) the sound
doesn't change properly. It's difficult to explain, but it sounds like
there are "levels" of pitch, which it jumps between. If the revs don't
change quickly (5th gear straight), then its not too bad. But it makes
the driving of the car ***y difficult.

Did a full clean install of Win95b, which worked fine. One day later,
same thing happens again. Found that this is only the case when the
sblive is set to allow more than one simultaneous wave playback (ie
set to '0' waves).

Has anyone else had this problem? EVERYTHING else works perfectly,
just that the sound in GPL is stuffed. Old installation of GPL, fresh
installation, with or without carsound patch. I'm using the drivers
from the CD, but don't see how this could be a problem since they
worked fine for a year and a half. I'm assuming that some setting must
be screwed up, since it worked for one day, then it was messed up.

I would enjoy being able to use the multiple wave playback from the
sblive, since that's what I payed for!!! Maybe a fresh install of Win
98SE (which is what I was using before)???

Suggestions please??? PLEASE!!!!

I've been seeing some anomalies in the gpl sound myself lately. I'm also
using Win95b but with a Mx300 sound card. w/ Directx7.0a  Maybe it's
something to do with directx7?

Maybe directx7 and win95b combination, since my old win98se with dx7
was fine, and win95b with dx6 was also fine.

I remember a thread previously that I can't find, about uninstalling
DX7, so I could try DX6 instead. Anyone remember the outcomes?
