I connect a Cx166+ and PII 266 at 19200 with no probs. Make sure the two
copies are *identical*. I actually transfered my modified 98 copy down
the cable onto the other machine (took 1hr though!). Make sure in
standalone mode the maximum PO is about 90-100% (use VGA probably on the
P200). Run the game from MS-DOS mode on both machines - GP2 is not
designed to run under windows).

Finally if you do run under 95&98 check your COM port settings in
control panel (are they set to 9600 Maximum?). They were on my PC until
I changed them. 115200 should be OK (maybe more on the PII).

Keep trying - 2 player racing is *superb*.

Let us know if that works...

Try to keep the game in its original form. That's the way it works
better(faster). If you're linking up by modem, there's no way to improve,it will
freeze sometimes. But if you're having a direct link,it works great,no lag and no
freezing,it goes smooth.Our machines at the time i played it were 2  x p166 .

GP2 sucks in link mode.

You must ensure that the copies of GP2 on each machine are identical.
It also helps a lot if the machines are similar in processor speed /
overall performance.
It will still have bad moments when it loses sync or screws up. I hate it.

I see it simply as - no network mode, no fun.
Try F1RS over IPX to see what real head to head racing is like.

After playing GP2 on a P2 266 and Cx6x86 166+ for months I have had no
problems at all. Of course if you set the PO too high the game glows
down if your opponent goes in the gravel, but other than that OK.

Could you elaborate on 'loses sync' and 'screws up'? I've heard lots of
talk about this but never the exact symptoms.
btw Maybe it's 'cause the cable I use is only 2m long or maybe i'm just
lucky?
When I upgrade my Cx166+ I'll try the newer games (like F1RS) and get a
good comparison.
