Racing Simulators

After reading this newsgroup for months, I finally found it's time to ask
some questions:

1) Don't you think that the old programers are far better than those ones
from Sim Racing companies? When the computers had much less processing
power, the programers used creativity to make fantastic games. Those MSX
and C64 days were fantastic in this point of view. Now we have fantastic
486s and Pentiums we've never dreamed of, but we have to face these
"almost" fantastic racing games.
I feel that I'm one of the few that don't care too much to texture
mapping quality or detail level. What I consider the most important thing
on a racing sim is frame rate. With frame rate I can "feel" the speed I'm
running. I remember the first time I tried out Nascar on my DX2 66. I
thought it was beautiful, but, what about the speed. Someone can say, ok,
just put the details level to the min. and have fun! But the game was not
designed to look or sound that way, wich makes it poor. I think sim-makers
should be more concerned on AI and car handling in great frame rate. What
do you think of F1GP frame rate, even whit road texture? It's fantastic!
When GP2 gets around here (Brazil) I'll play it and will be disppointed
some few hours later on many "little things" the sim probably already has!
I know that I'll spend some good money (games are around US$85 around here
!!!!) on a sim that intends to be the BEST one around.

2)  What is this ICR2 patch all about? I can't believe I have this
fantastic game that has so many little things that drives me crazy. First
minute I saw ICR2 I said to a friend of mine: "Look !  It's Nascar with
Indycar graphics!" Am I wrong? Please watch some mid-pack Michigan race.
The cars run too close in incredible   high speeds!!! I've never managed
to ride among them without crashing.
But this patch is really silly. "Now the rev-warning light works". Is it
important at all? I can't play long races in Multi because of the mess on
yellows! That's not fun!

3) My English is poor... right. But why some guys here write in duch,
french or whatever? What will happen if I write some portuguese here.. :)

Like most of you, I'm looking forward having a copy of GP2. Unlike most
of you, I already know I'll be disappointed.

No, you are not the only one. I too consider frame rate is much more
important than beautifull textures. That's why I play GP2 in VGA,
without the sky texture and nearly nothing but car displayed in the
mirrors. That makes the game very smooth on my P133.

I have the patch and I don't see much difference in the handling of
the car. And it still feel like they are heavy and slow compared to
F1GP or GP2.

No you won't, if you choose the good detail level to suit your PC.
