Now I really want to see a Cart or IRL racing sim!!

My niece and I went to the IRL race at Nashville Superspeedway last saturday
night.  I must admit, it was a real blast and I enjoyed it immensely. It was
a great race, and those darn open wheelers were aboslutely flying around
that 1.33 mile speedway. The top qualifiers were in the 203 mph average
speed range. It was incredible watching them , then after the race they
opened the garage area, and my niece and I got to go into it, look at some
cars up close, and talk to some of the pit crews. We stayed in there till
they ran us out. I came so close to coming back on Sunday to do the drive
training thing, 6 laps for 300 bucks - my only saving grace from me doing
that was it was threatening rain that day, so I backed out of doing it. I
know it would have been quite an experience, and if they do it again when
they come back next year I think I will have to have a little nest egg put
away for it.

I have always been a die-hard Nascar fan, but I must say I am now very much
interested in these open wheelers.

Yep...

The IRL, the best kept secret in motorsports!

Glad you enjoyed it, now you'll have to make the 6 hour drive up to
Indianapolis for the 500 next year!

Congrats on graduating to open wheel racing.  :-)

Once you've made those baby steps, start watching F1.....where the best
drivers in the world race.

I went to the Richmond race Don.  It was my first Indy car race, and I was
impressed as well.  I have always wanted to see one, and still would like to
see them at a place where they can really open them up.  The pre-race
festivities were pretty cool, and the price was cheap!   ($30).  I've been
an open wheel fan since watching Ayrton Senna in the late eighties-early
nineties.

Welcome to the club. I have watched all the IRL races this season on TV here
in England and enjoyed them all.

As an aside, I have never understood why people are fans of one form of
motorsport over another. I was wondering why you watched NASCAR racing
without taking an interest in the IRL?

As far as I'm concerned I watch almost all forms of motorsport (except
tractor pulling and monster trucks). Take today for example. I will watch
the F1 race then the IRL race and the CART race. If the IRL race hadn't
clashed with them I would have also watched the highlights of last week's
NASCAR race (the earliest we get to see them). If there's a MotoGP race on I
would watch that too. Basically I can't get enough motorsport :)

You probably would have been faster than most of the
real drivers...

The IRL has some good racing I'll admit. When there's green flag action.
The problem is half the race is run under caution.

My main interest is in NASCAR, but when ever I go to see the Truck
Series, I also get a ticket for the IRL event.  I don't follow the IRL
like I do NASCAR, but seeing an event live is very exciting and any
NASCAR fan that just dismisses it is really missing out.

Huh, my experience has been just the opposite.  In the 2 IRL events
that I have been too at TMS, there have been very few cautions.

I think that is because Texas is a really easy track to drive. At Michigan,
there were a ton of cautions, and most of the drivers were basically out of
control. I like the IRL races, but will never pay to see one.

If you never have payed to see one, I would highly recommend it. Kind of
like Nascar, you really don't appreciate the full intensity of the racing,
and the speeds those cars are really turning , till you see them live. I
will be definitely making the yearly IRL visit in Nashville a regular
routine.

Race is not a relative word... but they give the Macy's day parade a hell of
