I've just downloaded the demo today...and I dont believe I ever missed
out on this one when it was released, considering Im usually pretty good
at grabbing all the new titles when they're released.

Anyhow, from the three stages its lets you play the overall experience
seems okay, of course the graphics arent up to par with RC2000, being
the older game it is thats understanable.  But in your opinion is this
one worth adding to my driving collection? Is there enough gameplay
there to make it worth while? The stages I ran seemed pretty damn
simple. Almost a little to Sega Rally'ish.  Ive seen the game for a
rather low price in the stores around here, so I wouldnt be out much
money.

CMR is in my opinion, like the other popular game from Codemasters, Toca
Touring Car Championship (1 & 2) a crossover game somewhere between Arcade
and Sim.

It is based on the FIA World Rally Championship, has SOME of the same
Rallies, Cars and Drivers,  even though it was not fully licensed by the
FIA.

It has some minor "tweakability" like a sim, such as  tires, suspension,
brakes, steering and gear ratio, it has several different camera views, it
provides good force feedback support, and the sound is ok too (the co-driver
is much easier to understand than RC2000!).

But remember, CMR came out in early 1998, before 3d sound was as available,
and before video cards like the TNT2 and V3 were available, so the sound and
graphics won't hold up to RC2000 or N3 or other newer titles out there.

Keeping this in mind, Id still place it in my top 3 or 4 sim/racer games in
my collection, and that's right up there with GPL, SCGT, N3 and F1RS!

So, If your looking for a rally game that is very realistic, and more sim
than arcade then perhaps your better off picking up RC2000.

But, if your looking for a Rally game that's fun!, and DRIVEABLE!  and not
overly sensitive like GPL and RC2000 then I think you'd enjoy CMR.

From what I understand, Codemasters are working on CMR2, and I hear that
Sega and UbiSoft are also about to come out with new Rally games, so CMR
(#1) should drop in price!

Hope that helps!

It may not have the most accurate physics, but it captures the e***ment of
the sport like no other game. I'd rate it in my Top5 Driving Games (that
includes racing sims) ;)

IMHO Top 5 (highly subjective) :

1. GPL                        (mount everest - a class of its own)
.
.
2. GP2                        (VERY good on today's hardware, but no
multiplayer)
3. Powerslide              (yes, uhhhm...  not realistic ;-) - but this
often underestimated game is better than most sims)
4. Viper Racing            (Drivin experience second only to GPL, but
disappointing AI)
5. Colin McRae

I recommend it!

Colin is kinda an arcade game, the game physics isn't up to the sim par, but it was sure fun to
play

If you love driving just get it ! It really is very satisfying and getting a
handle on the group B cars is quite a challenge. Cheers, Andrew.

If you've a FF Wheel it's still the best there is out there (and I've just
bought RC2000 a week ago - just not as good IMO despite the graphics).

CMR is the most playable rally game available. Even though the game is old,
it still rocks.

I recently bought RC2000, 'cause I read a review stating that RC2000 was the
rally game to have, that it was better than CMR. Well, I don't agree with
the reviewer. The review was better than the game:)

CMR lets you feel like a good driver from the start. You find yourself
wagging the cars tail, and you are having great fun. After playing for a
while, you realize that your initial times were no good. Then you find out
that it's more efficient not to slide that much. You start looking for the
best racing line. Internet racing becomes truly ***ive, and a good way to
see where you are taking the wrong line (your opponent is visible as a ghost
car). There is no latency problems either.

Roughly speaking, compared with sims like GPL and Viper Racing, CMR starts
out as an arcade racer, but soon becomes more like a sim. This game is a
masterpiece! Buy it!
