GP2 - Crash Fix

by Dave Hawn » Thu, 09 Oct 1997 04:00:00

Hi,

I have used GP2 (great sym) for about a year now.....P200MMx/32mb. etc.
I did load Pieters 97 carset soon after getting the s/ware.  I have had
the programme crash out on a regular basis, esp Brazil, first corner
when spinning off and hitting the armco.  From previous posts I
understand that this is a well documented problem.  I did read a post a
little while ago that suggested the non original carset (97) could be
the problem that causes the prog to crash!  I thought I would try and
prove/disprove this idea by reloading the s/ware on to my other hard
drive (D:), and try running it in its original Geoff Crammond mode......

Well, it appears to work 100% with no s/ware crash-outs!!!  So, I can
only deduce that the modified carsets are the cause of the problems.
Quandary, do I run with the 97 carsets (which I like to use), or run
with the original 94 carsets and not suffer the crash outs.

I wonder if any one has a fix for the 97 carset, or perhaps wait for GP3
(;-) or a 98 carset with a bug fix!  Any ideas......

Does this mean that the "new" commercial accessories coming out for GP2
soon (new tracks, editor and *NEW CARSET*) will cause the game to crash
also?

Why don't you try some of the other carsets. I'm sure there are more than
one for 97? Search on some of the other gp2 websites, there are quite a
few of them?

I have heard of this 'new' s/ware pack (non Microprose), after reading
the subsequent posts to my original question, it appears that it is only
the carset I am using that causes the problem.  I will not bother to
load another 97 carset as the season is nearly over....I will probably
use that add on s/ware pack when it is released......any ideas when it
due to hit the streets?

I've been using Pieter's carset with a new dash for at least six months,
and don't remember any crashes(except those caused by backmarkers
pulling off-line!).  Please try reloading a fresh download from Pieter's
site on your new installation(D:\).  Maybe it just didn't take
correctly.  Do you have any trouble w/Netscape or MS IE?  These programs
