I have tried every possible position to stop in the pits.....they still
won't do anything.  I assume that I'm supposed to be in line with the

Are you POSITIVE you are hitting the brakes to stop in your stall and not the
backup/revers key/button? If you use revers to stop, the pit crew will NOT
start working. The game uses the brake signal as the key to start working.
Again, make sure you are hitting the brake and not reverse by checking in
"Options" and "Controls".
