F1 Racing simulation question

by éric Fortie » Wed, 02 Sep 1998 04:00:00

Hi everyone
I bought the F1 Racing simulation from Ubi-Soft and unfortunately i don't
have the graphic card to play with it.
Can someone help me find the right card (best value for the best price) to
be able to play this...

I have a PC Pentium 166 with 32Meg with an ATI 3d Rage II.
What can i do ?
Thanks
Eric

Buy a Voodoo Graphics card like the Diamond Monster 3D. They should be
quite cheap in the US now. Or a Canopus Pure 3D if you can afford a
little more

The previous post is right, yet I'd like to add that you shouldn't by a
Voodoo II card. Not because they're bad, but your system would not be able
to "feed" the Voodoo II board as fast as it needs to be, so the overall
improvement compared to a "normal" Voodoo board would only be about 20%. I
also experienced a higher framerate after adding another 32MB of RAM. And:
DON'T BUY A VOODOO BOARD WITH RUSH-CHIPSET!!!!!! The chipset should be
called Voodoo Graphics. Turn off skies and replays, and make sure you
installed the latest patch.

My system: Pent 166, 64MB, Matrox Mystique + Diamond Monster, SB64.

Have fun!

I bought the ATI Expert '98, which features the Rage Pro Turbo chip.  Sure,
it's no VooDoo2, but it was only $85 at Electronics Boutique.  I have to
turn off the sky and replay, and reduce the draw distance to 1/2, for a good
framerate.  Works well with NFSII SE and Fox Sports Golf '99, though.

From my point of view a 3dfx-card is absolutely recommendable, I would prefer a
Voodoo 1 card as a cheap solution or a Voodoo 2 card for Pentium II systems.

Voodoo 1 to Voodoo 2 is the difference between good and brilliant. And use
directX 6!!

Buy a 3dfx-card, such as the Diamond Monster 3D - they're
quite cheap since the Voodoo II came out...

Also, man mailt sich...

Eric,

I am not taking the chance to write you in French since you could be an
anglophone with a French name. But there it goes ....

If you are from Quebec, Guillemot products would be the best choice for you
since they are in Montreal and they have the best prices for Voodoo2 based
cards. They have the best prices for 8 and 12 Mb cards.
