Hawaii waiting list ?????

by A. Walk » Sat, 15 Jun 1996 04:00:00

As i understand it Hawaii now has a waiting list.

Is this correct? If so any idea how long till you can race?

Also I logged into the site and D/L all pertinant info and the app seemed to
send all my info, email etc to the site. Is this correct?

After this I was able to look around the site and use the race schedulerand
D/L from the BBS but there was only one other person in there and one open
race at taladega with no drivers. I tried to join the race but got a password
screen...am I supposed to enter my password I used for the system here ? or is
this for the password they provide me with when my name hits the top of the
waiting list?

I realise that the Hawaii site is under heavy load so it seemed strange to me
that there was only one other person logged in and only the one race waiting
to be run. Granted it was 1 am Australian time..subtract 22 odd hours for the
east coast of the usa would make it about 3am the day before there :-) but I
thought there would be at least a few people to start up a race with.

Any help would be greatly appreciated......if Ed or Rick read this the
homepage doesnt mention much about waiting list time factor....just an
autoemail reply to say it'll be 3 weeks 6 weeks till someone leaves you a spot
on the grid in their will....would be great.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers Al

There is no longer a waiting list for Hawaii.  Fell free to dial in &
you'll have complete access.

and enter a race and get asked for a password that means you are trying
to enter a "closed" race. Because there are a LOT of inexperienced
drivers on the service, many groups of drivers set up closed races to
keep out the "riff-raff" <g> and race against drivers that they are
comfortable running side by side against.
As for the servers going down, it happens now and then. To 99% of the
drivers it's not a big deal. We'd even be willing to pay a monthly fee
now (did you get that Ed Martin?) if it would eliminate our long
distance charges and put up with the server lock up.

It sounds like you tried to enter a closed race. If you look at the bottom
of the window for a race, it will either say Pickup or it will have a name,
such as PFSS or IVGA. The Pickup races are open races, while named races
require a password to enter.
