...with lots of stuff on the Goodwood races where Brabham wrecked, and some
good (albeit too few for my tastes :) photos of the cars...

I was thinking...maybe F1 should revert back to wingless, 3-liter,
naturally-aspirated cars, and a minumum ride height of 2.5"...

It'd beat those ugly things that they have today...

I enjoy the modern F1 cars.  I find them both graceful and powerful from a
visual perspective.  The GPL cars are great too, but more from a romantic
impression of the era in which they competed.

I have to agree the F1 cars today ARE some of the ugliest cars I can
remember.  Although I can think of many many winged cars that definately
have "the look" so I don't necessarily agree that going all the way back
to wingless wonders is a good idea, we should at least get back to the
days when the car was rounded instead of these square nosed, square
hipped travesties.

Jeez, me too!  Pretty cars that don't go?  Pleasant slow cars?  Insert rude
noise here.   In case no noticed F1 has always been the ultimate racecar of its
era.  Thankfully there is one place where the best can rise to the top of the
podium without penalty.  Today if you want mediocrity go watch those
nonrelavant popoff valved CART racers.  Or perhaps you need a Race Czar to***
with every single racer at every single race ala NASCAR.  Give me form by
function, F1 and those earthbound (MB excepted...) spacecraft from LeMans any
day.  17,000 rpm money burners!  Wings and pointy things!  Holes, slots,
strates, vents and ducting!  Let's advance the species baby.

Does that include replacing both Ecclestone and Murray Walker?

You have to realize that the CART rules keep ALL the teams competitive.  I
saw a news blurb that F1 may require engine manufacturers to provide engines
to ALL teams and not just the factory teams.   Hopefully that will have the
same effect on F1 as the CART rules.

I do enjoy a good CART race.... as long as it's not on an oval track.

On the note of F1 not being as good as it used to be....it DEFINATELY isnt.
Some (not all) of you Europeans complain about the same guys winning in NASCAR
all the time; look at F1, its more or less the Ferrari/McLaren show.  Of the
last 20 F1 races ive seen i think a driver from one of those two teams has won
about 16 of them.

<enters dream state>It was alot more exciting when the teams were allowed to
innovate...as in the cars didnt all look like they were made by the same
person.  Go back to the days of the loose restrictions; when 6 wheels on a car
was allowed.  I want turbo charged engines vs. normally asperaited again.  Back
to the old 1.5 turbo/3.0 normally asperiated days.  I want smaller wings and
less grippy tires.  When the driver had to do more to hold the car on the track
instead of just pointing it in the right direction.  I want to see cars with
distinct shapes painted in national liveries (though they are going back to
that somewhat).  I want races at tracks with historical value.  Dont build a
new track for the USGP...hold it in the streets of Detroit or at Watkins Glen
in the hills of upstate New York.  Give me Brands Hatch and Silverstone in its
old configuation (ok keep Silverstone the same but put Woodcote back in).<wakes
up>

I know it seems like it will never happen again but i wish it could.  Im to
young to have lived through those days but i only wish i had.  It was truely
the golden age of not just F1...but of all motor racing.

In my opinion the Indy F1 track is one of the worst, if not the worst, on
next years schedule.  I don't like the banks because absolutely nothing will
happen on them.  The cars are too evenly matched for any passing to occur.
The funny thing is, the track designer is very proud of incorporating the
banks and the fact that the cars will be on either a bank or a straight for
~30 seconds.  Boring.  The only good thing about the track, the better seats
are not the most expensive.  The most expensive seats are with the best view
of the straights where ain't nothin' going to happen.

>You've not watched a lot of F1 this season, have you?

I watch F1 whenever I can (I missed Monaco because my daughter was being
born at the time) but I'd say this season has been kept alive more by
***-ups than quality of racing.  The European GP was a farce.  And if
McLaren hadn't been so inept this season (in a sport that claims to be 'the
pinnacle') the championship would be over and done with.
F1 this year certainly has been good entertainment value but more for the
comedy aspect that the racing.
