Changing Between Wheel and Stick

Changing Between Wheel and Stick

I just got the MicroSoft Sidewinder FF wheel and pedal set for GPL ($141 from
CompUSA Online).  It is great and makes GPL a very satisfying rather than
frustrating experience.

Q1:  But, after I installed the wheel, I find I am at a loss as to how to get
Flight Simulator to recognize the joystick again.  Switching the plugs and
rebooting doesn't do it, and I can't find any place to explicitly tell Windows
which device I want to use.  The Control Panel/System dialog, where I would
expect to do this, just shows some generic driver for the gameport (VJOYD.VXD).

I've never seen anyone else comment on this, so I have to believe it's
(another) no-brainer test that I've failed.  Any suggestions would be
appreciated.

Q2:  Since I've now got the M/S FF Wheel, is there some significant advantage
in replacing my old FlightStick with a M/S FF stick?  Would it make switching
between wheel and stick easier?  Could I perhaps use the pedals with the
joystick?

(My system is a Gateway 266 mhz with the Ensonic card and Windows 95.)

I have the same problem and when I go to control panel/game controllers my CH
flight stick is no longer there, but the drivers are still on my hard drive.
You should be able to switch controllers in the game controls area of the
control panel.  I assume it's something in the sidewinder software thats
preventing me from using my joystick.

I emailed Microsoft tech support weeks ago,,,, no reply.

George,  I hope I understand you correctly.  The joystick has to be
reinstalled from Control Panel/Joystick or this could say Game Controllers.
If it is a Game Controllers icon instead of Joystick icon, then there can
only be one thing listed there.  Remove the wheel selection and ADD the
joystick.  Jim

Pay a visit to www.chproducts.com and pick up a copy of QUICKJOY from
them....it stores all your joystick/controller calibrations and lets you
change controllers with two clicks, literally.  I have five controllers and
all work through Quickjoy readily.  Great.
