Never thought I'd see this - one of the agreed-upon points from a recent
Formula One TWG meeting that notably, Ferrari were in agreement with.

"Very substantial reduction in downforce (e.g. down to 10% of current
levels)
It was noted that there was a strong argument that such measures would make
the racing much closer, increase the number of overtaking possibilities and
improve safety on high speed corners if done in conjunction with a major
increase in tyre grip - eg wide slick tyres. It was therefore agreed that
the FIA should commission an independent expert to study this issue in more
detail. It was proposed to implement any changes in 2008."

End of the aero era?  Hmmm...  Maybe it's not OT after all; another few
years and GPL will be back in style!

Judging by some of the crazy looking wings we are getting close to the
immediately post GPL era already

   Nah.   LOTS of politics can still play out before 2008 arrives.
