Yeah, the SWFF and Precision Pro don't work on off-brand sound cards.
I replaced an Ensoniq with a SB16 to get rid of my problems.
Strangely enough, I on;y had the problem with Jedi Knight, so maybe
it's a Lucas thang...

You played Jedi w/ a joystick?

As to a lucas thing, I too have an Ensoniq.  Using my regular Sidwidern, in
XvT my base buttons are randomly activated, since some of the settings in the
joystick and the sound card conflict.  So I'll be flying along, and on a
certain musical chord, a flair fires off!!  fwiw, only Lucas games have given
me this trouble.

>You played Jedi w/ a joystick?

Yes, MS SW PrecPro.  It works pretty well, and greatly enhances the
feel and playabilty of the game, especially the ability to use the
twist axis to run around the enemy and continue firing at him.  Now
that I'm getting a bit further into it, I find I have to remap my
buttons and keep the keyboard handy for all the extra stuff I can do,
but it really helps!  Of course, now my wife wants one...

Me too. I need to replace my sound card before my SW FF will work.
Luckily, sound cards are pretty cheap nowadays. I got mine for like
$18.

interesting.  Have you always played w/ a joystick, or are you switching
from mouse/keyboard?  there' are some things I really hated about
Joystick play in such games, such as:

1)  I'm a man, not a tank.  I always hated the smoothness of motion
caused by a joystick.  If you turn, you turn like a turret.  No
flexibilty in the speed of doing so.  Felt really off for me.

2)  On that thread, a mouse allows very fine adjustments, as well as
being able to completely spin around at amazing speed w/ just the flick
of a wrist.  I've never been able to do this w/ a joystick.

Has the FF SW been able to solve these problems?

I played Duke Nukem with keyboard and mouse, and JK with the joystick,
and really like the joystick.

Sounds like you had a switch-type joystick, what in the olden days we
called digital (you're moving or you're not, you're turning or you're
not, etc).  Try it with an analog (or nowadays, modern digital)
joystick, which gives you proportional control over your movement.
Twist the joystick harder and you turn faster, push a little sideways
to sidle along a wall, turn and push sideways to do the "circle of
death" thang that I could never do with keyboard/mouse.  Note that
it's important to find one with good ergonomics, stop by CompUSA and
try out a couple dozen on their display rack before you decide.  Much
as I hate MS, the Sidewinder precision Pro (and it's twin brother, the
serious steroid abuse case the FF version) have a control setup I
really like.  The PP actually has better feel then the FF, IMHO.

I still use the mouse for fine aiming for sniper work and such, as
it's got a finer resolution.

Well you just had to get the little adapter from Microsoft, if your MIDI
port is non-SB-compliant.
I have a tropez Plus and it works for me, all is I had to sacrifice the COM1
port to get it to work. Now the Mouse was moved to PS/2 port so its ok for
me.

At least now I can still use my external keyboard at the same time. Which
the SB cant!!!!!

I've had this problem almost every time I try to use the Sidewinder 3D
Pro as just that instead of as a CH Flightstick or Thrustmaster (ie in
analog mode) with my Ensoniq Soundscape Elite. Other than that I REALLY
like the card. Does anyone know if this happens with the Audio PCI card?

BTW it happens for me in almost 80% of games not just Lucasarts.

Uhh, I had a SoundScape Elite for quite some time, and experienced only ONE
problem with my Sidewinder 3D Pro - The WC Prophecy demo went haywire in terms
of joystick control.  Everything else worked flawlessly (and the sound card
sounds great.  It puts Creative Labs' cards to shame quite easily :).

William,
if you go to the Lucas Arts homepage there is a patch in the tech
support area that fixes the fighter from veering off to the right.
http://www.lucasarts.com I think it is.
