Problems with GPLShifter in GPL

by Doug Olse » Sat, 21 Dec 2002 03:32:36

Hey all, I wonder if anyone's run into this problem before:

Setup:
- "generic" CH gameport wheel (shows up as "2 axis 4 button joystick") -
pedals still attached, but busted and not used.
- Act-Labs Performance Pedals + clutch (USB)
- Act-Labs GPL Shifter (USB)
- Win2k Pro
- ACT LABS Shifter/Clutch Utility

This setup is working a treat in GTR2k2 and RT (only other two I've tried so
far), but I'm having problems with the controller setup in GPL. The wheel
axis is recognised, and so is the clutch. No joy with the throttle and
brake, though. In the GPL calibration screen, they don't respond, even
though the clutch pedal can be calibrated normally. I've made sure that I'm
on the right calibration screen (i.e. the second page of axes). Doesn't seem
to matter how I fiddle with the controller IDs, either.

Before I bought the shifter, the wheel and pedals worked correctly in GPL.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

Thanks!

- Doug

I have the shifter and have to say that it is not at all clear how to best
integrate it into the games,i have been met with often sarcastic replies to
all my problems along the lines of....

"Did you remember to press Page Up-Alt-Tab-End-Num Lock-F7-Spacebar and
drink Tequila all at same time then it configures perfectly.....!

Ooops my error...should have known

Go here to get JSJ's GPLShift+.  http://home.worldonline.dk/7471000/,
Patch your gpl.exe, edit the gplshift.ini file with this:

Share_All_16_AXIS = 1
DisableUSBshifter2AXIS = 1

This allows you to share ALL GPL 16 AXIS between 5 active Game
Controllers, instead of only 2 (first & last).  It also will prevent
GPL USB Shifter from using 2 AXIS, so these can be release to other
game controllers.

NP, don't forget to use the other features of GPLshift too.  Like the
FOV, mapping shift-r, replay button to wheel, etc.  Even if you don't
have a shifter, this util is indispensible.

If you've got the GPL Shifter working in GT2K2, I'd appreciate learning the
exact settings you're using....  I have it on ID#2 (in Win 98SE) and can't seem
to get it to work....

TIA

Well, I don't think I did anything special -- it pretty much worked out of
the box.

My shifter's currently on ID 1, but I don't think that makes a difference
for me -- I've been fiddling around with the IDs, and never had a problem in
GTR2K2. I'm running the "Act Labs Shifter Utility" 2.2 beta in the
background. The shifter settings in there are the defaults (picked my
shifter in the list/ standard gear pattern/use 7th as highest...and I'm
using "direct support".

Hmm.....

Those are exactly my settings, except that I'm using Version 2.1.  Where did you
find the 2.2 beta?

Also, what are your controller settings within the game?  I have Shift-Up and
Shift-Down pointing towards the paddle shifters on my LWFF.  What are your
pointing at?

Thanks!

Thanks!
