Nothing will help GP2 modem play! I have tried every option, baud rate,
etc. with 3 different people, and nothing good ever happened. Microprose
has to rewrite modem play, it's not even worth fixing!

Just wondering whether anyone has any suggestions for modem setups in
GP2 that will improve its speed over a modem link.

That is...should variables such as compression, error detection and flow
control be enabled or disabled ??
Also what baud rate will work best ?(28.8bps modem)

If anyone has any suggestions or fantastic init strings your help would
be much appreciated.

Cheers

The king of sim - John Wallace - has put together an excellent guide to
modem racing. It is the only thing that has worked for me. You'll find it
on his SRN site.

I have tried a Modem(I have two phone lines) and Null Modem connection
between my PP200 and my P100. The few tricks I have learned are:
1 - Use the USE16550 switch on startup
2 - Let the slower machine call the faster one. The answering machine
has higher CPU utilization.
3 - Never use a Baud Rate higher than necessary. When we were hooked
up at 57000 we would get pauses. After changing to 38400 the pauses
went away.
4 - The Faster machine will slow down to the other's frame rate. On my
machine I had to go from 17fps to 14.2.  :-(
5 - The error correction and compression must be turned off. The game
handles this by itself
6 - The game's performance is crappy head-to-head, even on a
Null-Modem connection. The CPU utilization goes up by 40-50% on
average compared to stand alone.

Hope this helps
