ProMedia 5.1 Update

by Larr » Fri, 20 Feb 2004 05:26:43

Someone else here mentioned their ProMedia 5.1's had died like mine did.

I just found out that Klipsch has extended the warranty from 1 to 3 years
due to this problem.

You have to register your set online to get this warranty, but if you are in
the same boat I am you should call Klipsch!

I love it when a company does the right thing :)

ProMedia 5.1 Update

Ok, I didn't want to post this until I was able to verify this info was for
public consumption.  It is, so if you have a set of Klipsch ProMedia 5.1's
that have gone bad, this is for you.

The warranty on these speakers have been extended from one to three years to
the original owner.  If yours have gone bad, you must do the following to
get them repaired or replaced:

1.  Go to www.klipsch.com\extendedwarranty\ and register for the extended
warranty.
2.  Call Klipsch's RMA department at 866-253-9563 and select option #8.

From this step onwards your process may be a bit different from mine.  They
will obviously need your purchase information, etc...

Most of the good speaker companies are pretty good about that - BW, M&K, Polk, Cerwin Vega, and Klipsch etc.  I would have been surprised if Klipsch didn't work with you as they have good customer service and trade-in policies.  I own a pair from Klipsch myself.

Miller & Kreisel did something similar when they found a propensity of some of their woofers to tear even when not abused.  They extended my warranty from 5 to 10 years.  My primary 12" subwoofer tore in year 6, lol!  Didn't even tear on something very bassy - the material just had a weakness.  They ended up sending me a new woofer to install - replaced it in 10 minutes.

Larry,
Yes, their hearts are in the right place but quality control is dicey. I had
two replacement Promedia 4.1 setups sent to me - each one was defective. On
the third try, customer support put instructions in their system for the
shipping department to test the unit before sending out. The third unit I
got worked just fine.

Makes me wonder, though, how many units they had to go through to find a
good one.

Thanks for the info. I have had my 5.1's for about a year and a half now.
I have always thought Klipsch was a class act company. So far, knock on
wood, I have been fortunate with my set. I love em, they are awesome.

Well, they are being replaced with the Ultra's, which have been problem-free
as far as I know...

Don,

If nothing else, go to that link and register for the additional 2 years of
warranty.

You'll need the serial number from your speakers, which is on the sub (on
the back, lower-left-hand-corner on a small white tag).  It is in the format
0x-123456-x.

The first x is the year, the last date is the rev.
