Major ICR2 bug? Help with replay cut!

by Terrance Xavi » Thu, 16 May 1996 04:00:00

I was driving on the Vancouver track and all of a sudden the screen
shifts to the right and my car swirves and crashes. I think this is
some kind of bug in ICR2, but am not sure. This is the first time this
has happened when playing with any track.

Basically, I was going to lap two cars ahead of me and right before I
overpass them on one of the turns, the screen just flips out. Its very
weird to say the least.

Luckily, I cut the replay segment where the screen just goes berserk
for you guys to see. I want to know if you see the same unexplainable
crash as I did.

I am posting it to the alt.binaries.simulators.autos newsgroup. If you
would like a copy of it (its only 95k zipped) I can email you it.

Here are the variables that I played with:

Race length = 100%
Car Damage= none
Breakdowns = on
Yellow Flags = off
Pace lap = off
Weather - constant
Number = 31
Strength = 93%

Thanks for your help.

I had that happen in ICR 1 at Vancouver.  Right past the start/finish line.
Maybe the specs for Vancouver are flaky?

The same thing happens at Toronto, and occasionally on the start finish
line at Michigan, the car teleports back several hundred yards for a
moment colliding with any cars there.
 Any other *** bugs around?

Well, when I didn't give Emerson Fittipaldi enough room to overtake me
entering the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca and he spun, I continued on only
to see him suddenly sitting sideways across the track in front of me
before the next corner.   Checking the replay, sure enough he did a
bit of teleportation.  I've not had it happen to myself yet, but I've
only had the sim for less than a week.

i've had the exact same, happen with a couple of tracks, by far the
worst being Australia, i was moving down the straight and suddenly
found myself in the pits, the spun wildly,. had damage off so car was
ok, but lost the lead. and to add insult to injury got black flagged
for speeding in the pits.

On the back stretch at Elkhart Lake I once saw a flash and immediately
began to spin. As there were no cars near by I wasn't sure what
happened until I checked the replay - I had been teleported 50m up in the
air and then dropped back down onto the track again! Pretty wierd - I've
still got the replay if anybody wants a copy.

I've seen weird glitches pop up lots of times.  A couple of times at
Surfer's Paradise I've brushed the pit wall not far after crossing the
start/finish line and then everything goes wacked and I'm *over* the pit
wall... sometimes I even seem to be *stuck* in the pit wall (on the pit
side, not the track side), and I'm desperately trying to back out of it,
which seems to take about a minute.

Also, this was also at Australia, I think this was on the last left-right
combination before the final hairpin, I once had the car understeer
coming out of the turn, brushed the wall slightly, and then for some
ungodly reason the car started madly spinning about twenty times,
like it had hit a wall going 400 mph instead of 40.

One other type of glitch I can remember was at Michigan, I think.  It was
about 150 laps into the race, and I had settled into that weird kind of
hypnotic road trance that comes over you sometimes after driving ovals
for hours, and all of a sudden the screen went freaky and big pixels and
colors started flying around and I almost took the car into the wall.
When I checked the replay, it still showed it... from all angles, just
bizarre pixelation lasting about three frames.  I guess this is the ICR2
version of sighting a UFO.

Sounds like the teleport bug. Look at the replay and one frame you're
here, the next you're over there, and the next few eventually take you
back to 'here' where you left off! Quite spooky, and irritating as
hell when it happens on a good lap! Don't know if there's anything you
can do about it. I've even had it happen in Nascar I think.

Yeah!  It's happened to me too, except it was on ICR1, believe it or
not.  It happened at Michigan, Milwaukee, and Vancouver.  Lucky for me I
was able to comeback and finish respectfully.

Had something similar to this at Michigan. Barreling down the front
straight, suddenly slam into the wall and then slide down onto the grass.
Got a great lap time, though. <g>

I've also been under the pavement at Surfer's Paradise.

Ever see the AI go right through the pit wall at Vancouver?

I've also got a replay of a race at Long Beach where I passed an AI car on
the outside of T4 and beat it to T5, only to have it plow into the inside
wall at T5, bounce off and take me out.

My favorite replay of all time though has to be a NASCAR incident where
Rick Mast bought it in the short chute at Talladega and managed to take
about 12 cars with him. How does a car get loose in the short chute?

Post it to alt.binaries.simulators.autos! I'd love to see more replays
appear in there.

Yup! After I shunted the guy into the pit lane area because I started
braking too late. I was surprised! Mind you, I always brake later than
the AI in the hairpin's at V.
