I am a pc techie(arent we all) and i like to gain as much knowledge as i can
....'just in case' :)

Well im afraid this problem i have has me totally stumped.

My whole driving experience is being ruined by what could be termed a
'stutter'.

Whatever games i play in D3D or Open GL online or offline.....they have a
quarter to half second freeze/stutter every 10 seconds exactly.Yes i was
even so sad to time them :P

Well i have tried everything...sound,graphics,Bios,memory,page file,swapping
of ALL hardware to just see.....and still its every 10 seconds.

BUT if it helps....on TRD2...i start racing and its there ruining my
enjoyment and then on about lap 3 is stops...permanently for that session
however long i drive.

But stop racing TRD2 and try another game and its back....even if i restart
TRD2 its back but then goes after about lap 3 again....ODD!!

Any clues whatsoever would be much appreciated

XP2800
1GB Ram
9600 Pro and GF4 ti 4800se
XP Pro SP1 and SP2
SB Live 5.1 and AC97 onboard
DX9.0b and c

all tried in various mixes

thanks guys

Don't like the look of 2 GCs in the same rig.

    SP2 could be a factor.

The Live cards have a bad rep too and it's way too old for that rig. I'd
also be uninstalling the onboard drivers and/or disabling onboard sound in
bios. Or maybe try with only the onboard and chuck the Live.

Forget about what I said about the GCs then! :)

And, the 1G RAM could be making something unhappy (doubtful). Get rid of
VSync in your graphics settings too.

Try to run the game in a window and open the Taskmanager sorted by "current
cpu load" ... If the game stutters have a look if you see something in the
taskmanager.

Eventually remove nearly everything which is absolutely unneeded to run your
Game in the taskmanager.

good luck,

I had the same trouble with TRD2 and it was solved here already by Andi
Cole. You have to do this every time that you run TRD2, which tends to make
me think that it is a bug in TRD2. Pretty sure that it is caused by
background processes that are not giving CPU priority to the Game.
I get the same result by killing every thing in the background as suggested
but the method shown below as found by Andi is much quicker.

After you start the game wait till you get to the screen that says "enter"
down the bottom of the screen, Use Cntrl Alt Del to start the Task Manager
and in Processes, Right click on RD2.exe and set priority to High, close
Task Manager and continue with the game as usual. This worked for everyone
that I know that is using TRD2.
Strange thing about this bug is that it never appeared in the Demo with
anyone that I know.  Thanks again Andi.

If this doesn't work, and it didn't for me. Try turning off force feedback.
If you have SP2, this could solve your problem...but, unfortunately, leaves
you FF free.

leaves > you FF free.

Everybody that I know of that it worked for are still running SP1

If I had any other games that were giving me grief  apart from Race Driver
2, I would uninstall SP2 immediately.
Cheers.

NP Darf. I've discovered a new tool !! Try getting X-Setup from
http://www.x-setup.net/

Then go into Systems, Advanced Performance Settings and set Enable Command
on Context Menu.

See http://www.cole0.plus.com/files/XQ.jpg

When you next want to run a 'dodgy' bit of programming (such as TRD2) right
click on the .exe and select Start High Priority.

This works with programs that don't like being interrupted such as RBR (not
that RBR is a dodgy bit of programming) but it all helps.

Whilst there take a look at http://www.cole0.plus.com/files/Yump1a.wmv it's
4.7MB.

You probably have another application running.  The screen saver,
virus checker, auto updater, MS Messenger, power saving feature,
e-mail are the usual culprits.  Anything that might use any sound is
another thing to look for.

Sometimes REDUCING the AGP aperture in BIOS helps.  There might be a
hardware conflict - look in the Device Manager to look for any warning
symbols or shared IRQs.  Did you used to have a dial up modem that
isn't disabled?  And make sure that any on-motherboard sound or
graphics devices are diabled if you aren't using them.

Check out  http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm  for
shutting down services if you have Windows XP.  Check what's in your
taskbar at the bottom right to see some of what's loaded up at
start-up.

I had a similar thing in lfs.  update your 'computer' driver under
device manager from 'acpi something orother) to 'advanced configuration
and power interface (acpi) PC.  No, it doesn't make any sense, I read it
on a forum and it totally fixed my problem, and apparently others...

How do you find all this stuff, do you just surf the net 24/7 or something?
:-)
I will give it a try.... Thanks

I think this came from bhmotorsports forums.

But basically I'm an IT support technician and love my job which doesn't
stop when I get home. Also I have a number of colleagues who are seriously
into overclocking. A friend has been up there in the top 5 world wide for
certain benchmark scores. I get every little trick in the book.

And finally I love driving sims especially those that 'feel' like real life.
The Evo in RBR 'feels' just like my Evo VIII even though RBR is only a VII.

Sadly no, it's RBR. However I'm pretty certain I've seen a jump like that in
Australia a few years back. The landing isn't real but I'd set things to
'safe' damage and I was going a bit over the brow deliberately.

Andi.

PS If only TRD2 Euro Rally sections were half way to RBR!
