Banshee?

Are there any problems with buying a Banshee
16 mb card for use mainly with NROS and GPL?

System is Super Socket 7 mobo with K6-2
at 300 mHz.

Thanks,

Banshee?

On the same note, I'm looking for putting together a new computer,
something that wont break the bank, but will last a decent while.  I
heard about these Banshee cards, but am unsure if its a good investment.

I hope to get into F1RS and GPL soon, but for the moment Im an ICRS and
N2 fan.  I realize rendition is the answer for ICRS and N2, and i've got
one, but it seems to act funny with, not to mention is a bit outdated
for the new motherboards and stuff, so im willing to go back to standard
high-res graphics in my old games.

Anyways, Im looking for good 2D/3D combination even if its separate
cards.  Suggestions?

Thanks.

I'm using a Guillemot Maxi Gamer Phoenix 3dfx Banshee with GPL and a PII 350
and GPL runs very smooth in 800x600 with full detail, full mirrors, and
stays at 36fps. After $20 rebate there as low as $89 and come with 16mb of
SGRAM!

I installed a Creative 16 meg banshee card last night, replacing
a Screamin'3d, in a K6-2 350 system.  It was $130 at Circuit
City with a $30 rebate.

There is a significant improvement.  With the V1000, I could
not run 640x480 resolution without a big slowdown, and
typically ran 512x384 with less than half the detail in
GPL.

Now, as Arthur said, I can run 800x600 with all
details at 36 fps.  That's with no AI on the track
of course.  With 19 AI at Monaco, I can turn down
just a bit of detail, and get 17 fps sitting at
the back of the starting grid.  Does a P2 do much
better than a K6-2 in that situation?

I got 21fps at the back of the field with 19 at Monaco, 800x600 full detail.
Yea looks like the PII a bit faster, though GPL doesn't support AMD's 3DNOW,
would be interesting to see the frame rates on a AMD 350 if GPL supported
3DNOW.

Also using the Guillemot's card over Creative's card might be giving me
slightly faster frame rates due to Guillemot's use of SGRAM compared to
Creative's SDRAM.
