I know it's off topic, but interesting nevertheless. 10.5 million dollars
was just turned down for this car. It's a Jaguar XJ13. Built in 1966, it was
expected to win Lemans but was so beautiful that it was never raced.

I believe it's on display in London.

It is nice and one of a kind, but you can buy a lot of nice cars for that
kind of money.

The engine is something to behold as well, basically it's 2 of those
lovely old DOHC 6 cylinder engines joined in a Vee.......

I assume the person who could afford it in the first place already has
enough money :)

It was never raced because there was a fire at the factory and the thing was
almost completely destroyed.

I heard that these guys:

http://www.finesportscar.com/

are working on an all aluminum reproduction that will be indistinguishable
from the original.

actually, that is not true, the car was never raced then crashed while
filming a commercial or something.
It crshed because a tire burs, they were using the original tyres from when
the car was built........how stupid can you be.
i think it was crashed at the millbrook proving grounds, but am not sure
about that

Sudesh

PS there was a big fire at the factory , and most of the XKSS's were
destroyed in it.

It is a truely beutiful car. I saw it at Shelsy
Walsh Hill climb a few months back. Unfortuanely it was not in the best of
health when it tried to go up the hill:-( and just trundled up making a
horrible noise. It does sound quite fabulous when on full sound mind you.

Now if only I could  pull off a few more bank jobs.

The car is beautiful and I am surprised I have never seen or know about it.
I used to work as a Jag bodyman and very much enjoy knowing the history of
Jaguar's cars.  I do have my doubts that 10.5 million was rejected.  I would
think that a couple of million would get you the car completely reproduced
and I am sure someone has all the drawings!

Very nice, and it appears that the picture was made at the overpass on the
final straight at Silverstone.  Recognized that from GPL.

lines...

It's a sweet car, granted.  But 10.5 MILLION?!?  I don't *think* so - I haven't
seen a car YET that I think is worth that kind of money...
