I still think N2 is wonderful but I am really bumed that they
did'nt include random pit stalls. I assume that since you have them on
hawaii that it is not impossible to do. Since Adam and the others
frequent this group; maybe if there are enough of us out there
requesting it they will include it in a patch. Or as I've always heard;
" a squeaky wheel gets a greasin" :) Just a thought with a lot of hope
in it.

I want Random Pit Stalls too.  It would make pitting More interesting
and a bit harder!!

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I believe the pit stalls on Hawaii are
NOT random, but are based on when you enter the arena.  I remember
waiting until the last minute to get in on a race because it would give
you the pit closest to the exit of pit lane.  Sometimes it was good for
a couple extra positions in those stupid crashfests at Tally, because
when you didn't survive the turn one carnage and got towed in, you would
get towed ahead of a couple of other guys in the same predicament and
gain a couple of spots.  Ah the days of yore!  ;)  Does anyone still
participate in those things?

I DON'T want random pit stalls (wait, don't flame yet). What I would
rather have is pit stalls based on qualifying position just as in real
NASCAR racing. This would give an incentive to qualify well especially
on the short tracks so that you don't get stuck pitting on the back
stretch. Now THAT would really make the game more realistic.

Yes, that's correct, and when assignable pit stalls are available,
that's how we will implement it. There are no plans to add assignable
pit stalls to N2 for a very simple reason: the AI cars cannot handle
the player car being in the middle of pit road. When the AI is
improved enough to handle that situation, you can bet that you will
have assignable pit stalls in the game. (We at Papyrus want to give
them to you just as bad as you want them...)

Jim, thank you for this answer! This is the first time I have
seen one given!

Will that also include the ability for all the cars to qualify and then
having only the top 39 (or however many cars the track can handle) make
the race?  It's annoying to have the drivers at the end of the entry
field get left out at the tracks that run with less than 39 cars.

Personally, I'd like to see that included as well. However, that's a
separate issue from random pit stalls. (ie one could happen without
the other) In an ideal world of course, our next sim would have
both...

Jim, how hard would it be to implement 'flipping' when a car wrecks?  This
is
currently my only major con about the game.  My minor con is the spotter
calls
out cars that are more than a lap down as being just a lap down.

Otherwise, great game!

BTW, any plans for Indycar 3?

Jim... let me ask you this.... If I were to run a race at Richmond at
night compared to day with the track conditions being the same...
would tire wear also be the same?  I guess what I'm really trying to
find out is...... is racing at night compared to racing during the day
strictly a cosmetic feature (night time scenery)?

Thanks

If all the track.txt values for NRICHMND and RICHMOND were the same,
and ALL the conditions (weather, etc) were the same, then yes, the
tire wear would be the same. (I don't know if the track.txt values are
different, and I don't have a copy of N2 at home to check it...)

So in a sense, it's cosmetic, but then again, if ALL the conditions
were the same for a real Winston Cup car, then their tire wear would
be the same too...

Right you don't want random pit stalls.  But think about this.  If you
do qualify poorly and end up pitting on the back stretch, will they
reprogram the sim so that the pace car will speed up after dropping the
cars off on the front stretch?  This is what they done the last year or
two in real NASCAR.  This allows you to get to your pits on the back
stretch without a HUGE penality.

I believe that Nascar didn't want Papyrus to implement the car flipping.
which probably saved us from having to wait another year while they
programmed
it into the game.
With framerates being so important, it would have had to seriously slow
down the game while a car is going end over end down the backstretch of
Taladega.

This is beginning to be a chain question section....

Couldn't you have the program take the drivers list and randomize it for
the race, that way the same people won't be left out each race. Either
that or, like Eric said, have everyone on the drivers list qualify and the
worst qualifiers get left out. This would  be very interesting because
that means the player can be left out too.
