Hello everyone,

i am having a really difficult time with Silverstone. Any suggestions? I
have never done well with it. Right now I am in free practice, and I sit
second with 1:22.8. It is the only circuit at which I have never even
approached record lap.

I have a similar problem. I used the setup obtained from one of the ftp
sites.  I am really frustrated

I'm pretty sure that those setups are for the Amiga.

What is your top speed down any of the straights?

There are really only 2 places at Silverstone where you can make up any
time (well, ok, 3 if you count top speed down the straights, but there is
a compromise there).

The first place to make up time is through the esses (sorry, I don't have
the book in front of me and don't remember the names of the corners)
following the start/finish line.  On C tires, my lowest speed through
these corners is 135mph.  You should approach this in 6th gear, about
197-198 mph.  Leave it in 6th for the first right hander, down to 5th for
the 1st left hander.  As you approach the 2nd right hander, shift down
to 3rd gear.

You should be back on the gas as soon as you start turning right.  The
car may drift out (push/understeer).  You'll need to practice this so
that you just miss the curb on the inside of the 2nd left hander.  You
will definitely drift to the outside curb before getting onto the straight.

The second place for you to make up the time is through the slower
section after Bridge.  You'll need enough wing through here so that you
are able to take the slower corners close to 90 mph.  I think I average
about 86 - 95 mph depending on my line (98 - 107 in qualifying).

I usually can get 1m20.2s on C tires.

PS - In qualifying, you can leave it in 6th through the esses all the way
up to the 2nd right hander, which should be taken in 4th.

: I am not quite sure what speed I get upto on the straight. Actually after
: jumping into the opponents car several times and watching them drive I was
: able to determine only 2 sections where i could be losing time.

: At the series of S curves after the start: How I do not know because I can
: take them all at 6th all the way till the last right-left sequence onto the
: straightaway.

: At the end of the straightaway there is right hander which the opponents can
: take at 4th and high 3rd but I am able to muster only a 3rd all the way thru.

: I run with opponent grip level set at 10 for the pc editor.

What I do going around Stowe (the right hander at the end of Hangar Straight), is enter the bend in 4th
and change down to 3rd about half way round (2nd if I*** up the line) and this seems to be the quickest
way around. This is where I make up (or lose) the most time on other people.

What's this editor where you can change the grip levels?
On my editor you change the car power and driver skill levels (maybe that's the grip editor?)
Please excuse my ignorance!

Absolutely.  That is my approach as well.

The grip editor is included in a program called wcfged41.zip at
didnt.doit.wisc.edu in the PublicFiles/Racing/F1GP/Editors directory.
