Hello everyone,
Just to let you know I just paid a visit
to the European computer trade show in London and
microprose and Thrustmaster both had GP2 running
I spoke to one of the guys at the Microprose stand and
they said that the delay in the release was mainly due
to not getting the game to work with 8 meg on machines
with windows 95,  The game is coming out in June,  They
were very confident of this, but windows 95 users will need
16 meg, dos users 8 meg.

How did the game play?
All I can say is very well indeed, as far as I could tell all the
options worked, the speed of the game was very good,
The machine that I used on the microprose stand was a
P120  and the game ran great with full graphic detail in SVGA.
However on the Thrustmaster stand they had it running on
according to the badging a p166 but this ran smoothly but
slowly with the same detail, in VGA as expected there was no
problem,  The speed of the svga may have been down to them
having an older version of GP2, the microprose bloke said they
have worked hard the last few weeks on this aspect and it looks
like they succeeded.

The micropose stand had the game running with the keyboard
so I decided to play the game properly on the Thrustmaster stand
they had it setup with the T2,  Already owning one of these I was
looking forward to seeing how it works with this compared to ICR2,
after selecting quick race I choose Monza, being a fairly easy track,
you have to wait a long while though for the red light and then the
green, I floored the throttle and there came mistake number one,
the car just sat there with smoke pouring of the tyres, I eased of the
power and then the car began to get some grip and of we went, I
headed into the 1st chicane alongside a Mclaren hit the brakes and
turned left, it was a bit tight with the mclaren so i half mounted the
curb and view tilted as I did so, it was great, any way I won't bore
you with the rest of the race accept that I finished last (luckily no
one I knew was watching).  later on one of my mates had a go and
he touched wheels at hockenheim and actually took off, he then barrel
rolled into the gravel trap!

overall all I can say is, microprose have done a great job since the
last beta that i saw a few months back and that it will be well worth
getting in June,  Time to save up for a pentium motherboard and CPU.

Any mention of whether it would support any 3D accelerators or even
Direct 3D under win95 ?

Given that one of the reasons (alleged by MPS rep at the ECTS) is that
they are getting it running smoothly under win95, I would have though
not with the initial release. The game locked up twice running under
win95 while I was with it. The good news is the there didn't seem much
effect on the framerate under a win95 dos session compared to a reboot
in dos, which is usually a lot faster.
