anticipation. GPL was coming out for real, soon. This ng was full of advice
about where to get it first. I went direct to Sierra (Cendant) - they would
obviously have it first. Then the news breaks - EB are shipping it ahead of
Sierra - and it's cheaper too! I cancel my unshipped order with Sierra and
get and acknowledgement. Within a couple of days the postman is knocking on
my door with a package from EB. I pay the import duty and rip the package
open. The rest is history...
A week later the postman knocks again. My daughter answers. "It's a package
for your father. Please pay the import duty." That night I e-mail Sierra
"Customer Services" (someone called Melissa) and I get this reply:
"I feel like a real fool here. When I came in today I was informed that we
started shipping but no one had informed me before. I will keep this on
file with a high priority and get back to you with what I can do about us
getting that software back from you and getting you a refund. Once again
let me apologize. I will keep you posted though."
Since then, nothing, despite several more e-mails including one to the CEO
of Cendant.
I was advised by credit card company to ship it back so they could take
things further. So I posted it back to the States. They didn't tell me to
send it recorded delivery... so now they've washed their hands of it.
So now I am out pocket as follows:
Original purchase 30.26 ($49.95)
Import duty 7.70
Return postage 1.55
I'm 6,000 miles away from Cendant and I have a life to lead so I guess I
have to put that down to experience. It does taint my enjoyment of GPL
though.
Excuse me, but I had to get this off my chest and maybe, just maybe someone
at Sierra/Cendant will read this and realise that even this limited bad
publicity is bad for business.
