NASCAR: revolution (revoltion)

I just finished my second / third session with nascar revolution and feel
like calling it nascar REVOLTION instead.

So these are just MY IMPRESSIONS  - I set it to SIMULATION mode right away

I dont like it, feels like a playstation port, options are in wierd places
(i.e. you have to drill down to a race to set your driving prefernces and
even at that they are not saved between sessions).

The sense of speed is VERY lacking, not there at all mostly.

They tout the sounds on the box, but I have an EAX SB LIVE and I think the
sounds are dismal, there are few options to set for these other than volume.
they are pretty bad...

Driving, if you cant lead a pack and stay infornt you are TRYING to lose, if
you start at the back there is no way you can overtake, your car is just to
underpowered.

You cant shift maually, it says you can but there is no option I saw to set
it and even on sim mode the shifting is automatic and very anemic.  If
someone finds a way to shift manually tell me about it.

you ALWAYS start out in the far thrid person view, no way to change that.

Well, Im not really much of a reviewer, so these are my opinions.  I just
bought nascar 1999 the other day at a computer show, and find it better in
almost evey way.  (i.e. if you like arcade nascar racing seems to accomdate
that and if you like *** then it does that well also)  I never played
the other nascars, but I like the spartean graphics, the***pits, the
sounds, the options.

So I guess if your tired os nascar X the nascar revolution may suit you, but
if you are thinking this may be a sleeper like VIPER arcing was, then think
again, "it's NOT in there"

I got a "disconnected" feeling.

The engine sounds are much worse than F1RS (if you can believe that).

Not true...

Go to the car setup and select GEARS then click on AUTOMATIC
until it changes to MANUAL.

Correct. You always have to manually change it to the***pit/dashboard
view.

I find the sense of speed on par with Nascar Racing.

I like the sound of the engine. Now if we could just get rid of the
irritating announcers!

I usually skip qualifing at Talledega so I can 43rd, and with the use
of the draft, I am able to move to the top 5 and then I crash!

Look on page 16 of the manual! In the car setup menu, go to "gear
ratio" and toggle automatic/manual.

I have raced mainly at Talledega and when there is a multiple car
crash, the video goes into a very slow frame rate and you "lose"
control of your car. The audio is OK and your speed is still shown at
194+ mph, but the video stutters. If this is a software problem, then
the game is totally unacceptable!

Yes, you can shift manually.  It's in the car gearing section of setup
underneath the top down picture of the car.

Anyway, I got my copy today and I'll review it for Digital Sportspage.
I just finished spending a lot of time with Empire's Grand Touring and
I'll try to get that up this weekend as well.

My suggestion for anyone who has the least bit of doubt is to wait for
my review.  I'm not trying to toot my horn here, but so far, having
played the game and read the newsgroups, a lot of the messages are
flamebait in either direction.

So far though...if you're a Papyrus loyalist for realism, this game
wasn't even INTENDED for you (the force feedback is kinda cool
though).  If you think you want a fun game that isn't that hard to get
going with, hang in there.  I'm not decided as of yet.  I try to spend
several days with something before I finally write the review.  But I
still think unless you KNOW you want it -- wait for a full, detailed
review.

I would have to wonder how much time you spend with a game
to be able to review it that quickly. I was able to come to my
conclusions rather quickly, but I am not a porfessional (or
semi pro) reviewer.

Oh wait you are the guru of all racing sim gurus! Right. Get the hell
out of here with that. No matter how you or anyone else reviews
the game it will still be shit. You cannot change the laws of physics :-)

Not quite. The game is total shit. Nothing you (or anyone else) can say
or do will change that.

No offense, but if you already know that every race starts from a
rolling start and the CPU takes control of your car during cautions
and pit stops, why bother?  I've heard the game has some cool
things in it, but why in the hell did EA take the wheel out of your
hands during pit stops and cautions?  This game should not be
discussed in rec.autos.simulators...it doesn't even resemble a
simulation.  Take all further discussion to
"alt.games.driving.playable.with.a.gamepad."
